Severe Oil Leak

Something manageable in my opinion, as compared to my last venture.

More like "Jumping from the frying pan into the fire?" As you might only have been exchanging a running bike with certain problems for one that was a completely unknown quantity and which had apparently been unused for several years-so could be in an even worse mechanical condition than the last?

I always thought that was what we're supposed to do. :D They all are the same...no way you can ride a new (old) bike without taking it all apart to be sure everything is right and proper...even if it looks pretty :D

That's what makes it fun :D

For some of us, yes. For others I'm not so sure.

In this case, I think the OP mentioned early on that he wasn't looking to buy a basket case, so not likely to be up for tearing one apart to put it back together.

Good to see you looking for another commando. Put this experience into another one and you will love it. Most of us have owned our commando's for 40 years or more. Basic DIY rebuilds of engines probably wont cost more than $1000.00 [ new pistons, bearings, exhaust valves gaskets and crank hardware. ]

Dereck

Buy a bike you can use now and enjoy before doing anything major. Have someone who knows these bikes have a look before you buy.
