Don't recall whether I posted this one or not...

Not much P11 apart from the power unit, but interesting and fun...

Original title states "P11 Ranger," in Blue, but number falls into P11A Range.

If this bike could talk...

Now to get her back on the road...

Cheers

Welcome, Jefe. Looks like a fun one. I'd have to think on re-using that seat, though...

As I heard the story, any P11A's still at the dealer in the late summer of '68 got Ranger decals on the side cover and oil tank, and are known as P11A Rangers.

Just a few running changes between the various P11s - they've all got the same engine, trans and chassis.

Motocross prepped or maybe cross country?
Magneto no battery.
Chassis correct with tail loop
Forks?

It's set up for VMX & evolved a good bit since this pic was taken at Barber my 1st year back on a bike in 30 years. The real # is M67 & the bike is the 2011, 2012 & current AHRMA Premier Open Twin Expert #1. While I've ridden a few XC's with it, it's a bit large for the woods trails in the East. I've not figured out the picture posting procedure but a few more are available at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/nor ... 1491087143. The name was inspired by the comments following the original posting of this pic.

The forks are Marzocchi, the front hub is Elsinore, the rear hub is Triumph conical & the fuel tank is Yamaha TT500, all in the interest of weight reduction. It now weighs 326 wet. The magneto is to eliminate any electrical system....no battery, alternator or wiring. The frame & the rest of it is unmolested.

This bike will be at Lake Sugar Tree in Virginia this Saturday & (if I can keep drive chains on it...seems to go through them) competing every weekend until it goes to Barber in October.

I had one new & rode it on the desert for 8 years so have no interest in a resto...this is what I think these things were made for.

Yep, this is the best way to run them...just for the pure hell of it. Have fun & don't let it hurt you.

Maybe we'll get to say hello at the Barber Vintage fest?

Hope so. I'll be in Lot C, the offroad pits, & in the Road Race pits (my family does that too).

Lunch run today - 100 miles of back roads - incredible finds
Apples ready to harvest , short trees just dripping with apples.

Classic old red barn that refuses to fall, but been looking worse each time I pass.

This was not build by a drunk Irshman!
(with apologies to the Irishmen who stay off the bottle :!: )

Todays ride was about 75 miles
Could not carry the hay bale with current luggage set up.
Purchased and added another Wolfman Carryall for half price off Ebay .
Installed on handlebar cross bar as intended.
Rev Counter still out for repairs or replace.

Lots of country folks with home grown items for sale -

On the road again last Friday.
I think I over lubed the advance mech and oil worked its way on the points and condensers.
cleaned with contact cleaner, miss went away, problem solved.

back roads are plentiful with stone fences, trees, shade, no traffic, good touring.

Most P11 aficionados seem to prefer the high pipe look. But I prefer the low pipes for 2 big reasons, ignition maintenance and sound. Most of the high pipes with shorty mufflers have a tractor like sound to me. Other than no mufflers the best sounding P11's have always been the original low pipe reverse cone with just a single removable baffle plate.

That's just my opinion...good for you doing lubrication on your auto advance, that almost never gets done requiring retiming. Not the easiest job with no provision for a strobe and a trickier than most primary cover to get on and off.

What lube do you use for the advance unit and is it possible to lube without removing the points plate?
How often does this need to be done? Don't want mine to go bad, forcing the need of Electronic Ignition.

I forgot to reset Trip meter, I think about 100 miles today, 2 gallon of gas.
I received a Minion pirate for lucky charm, tucked in cell window of tank bag.
Still thinking about a Trail Tech Voyager or Vapor

Country road yard décor was great! One of many in the outback.

"Still thinking about a Trail Tech Voyager or Vapor"

Had one on my P11 for a bit & found the CHT & 'peak catch & hold' max speed readouts useful/interesting but the tach entirely useless. This may not apply to you as I've converted to a magneto. The Tach inductive pickup & software (event counter) is designed for use with today's electronically triggered ignition systems & the magneto was just too noisy for that system. The primary reason installed it was to calibrate my ears (get a peak RPM reference) with the RPM 'peak catch & hold' function but it regularly showed me turning the bike to above 13K (obviously not) & would spike with throttle application, regardless of engine speed. I did get an idea of CHT ranges under various conditions (highest observed was 430 F after a long delay on a hot day on the start line...you could smell the bike) but you'll find that you can't get the thermocouple in the spark plug well. I put mine under the forward center head bolt.

Great ride yesterday.
About 50 miles to gallon on country ride.....30-50mph avg
Sometimes 70, sometimes 0.
Have not replaced ignition with electronic yet, P11 is running too well.
I did get a Trail Tech plug 14mm sensor mounted on this P11, took some doing....had to crush/reform the attachment point to copper ring.
Max temp at right plug was 390 yesterday.
received a rebuilt tach yesterday after ride.....test tach out today.
anybody got a photo of a P11 project, ride or race?
