Unfortunately some vendors sell shit parts & they they double dip by profiting from postage as well . Highlinepowersports in the US comes to mind , I bought some blinkers , cracked lens ,these cockheads say they will sort out the problem , ask for photos ,ping pong emails until ebay feedback expires then nothing , tried to tell me ebay insists on return or no refund fuckin wanker

Alphabet 2 into 1 ,bike went well, but scarey on the front brake!
Parts you regret buying
my alphabet fits great good clearance nuts stay tight sounds great!.

Gravelburns

Any chance of a picture or two, ref clearance of headers to mudguard. As I said the bike went well and it did sound fine but it was not too clever on the front brake. If you can give me a heads up where I have gone wrong it would be appreciated , cos apart from the fact it nearly put me on my backside I would give it a go again!

Cheers j

Perhaps it would be useful if we noted when we purchased the unhappy parts. Dunstall is a faded memory. Quality control always was iffy.
It is hoped now with CNC and competition amongst vendors there may be some light in the way forward.
Hoped I said.

Are you aware that replica Dunstall decibels are still being made today :?:

Re; “Quality control always was iffy” - and so it was, but I went to the Dunstall Organisation shop in Well Hall Road and he just happened to be having a shop sale on, there were some full race cams , 2 that were worn badly where the cam followers had cut groves into ALL the lobes, one a brand spanking new one where the lobes had flats ground lengthways every 5 degrees.
And you are telling me that it is O.K. for Paul Dunstall to sell these bits of junk to the guillible public :?:

Without wanting to turn this into a powder coating thread, one of the ways to avoid orange peel, as well as using the best powders, is to pre heat the parts before applying the powder. This is what I have been told by the chap who does my PC.

Well the great thing about crap parts, especially brackets etc, is that you can normally produce a better replacement yourself and send the shit back. I have no idea how people manage without access to a machine shop!

I've had pretty good luck with everything I've purchased for the Commando...but then again I read every word written on this forum before I purchase anything :D

How do we manage without a machine shop you ask?
This the coping method.
1. Buy crap part in the false hope that it will be fit for purpose and a faithful copy of the original part ; so convincing in it's sheer perfection that even the most studious Commando aficionado won't be able to tell the difference.
2. Hang head in shame that we have fallen for it once again as soon as we open the packaging.
3. Try for at least 3 fruitless hours to make the part fit before giving up due to a lack of remaining wine.
4. Dig out the old crusty original part.
5. Spend at least a day convincing ourselves that the crusty part will look fine if we get it chromed.
6. Get old part chromed.
7. Repeat.

This is why there are so many bright shinny chromed Commandos getting around......IMHO

I regretted having my Guzzi frame powder coated. Not because of the finish which was great, but because the engine cleaner I used ( Jizer) took the shine off it and left me with a matt black frame just after I'd done a total rebuild on the bike.

It appears to have an early AMC Norton gearbox inner cover, perhaps the rest of the gearbox is too? (Somebody also forgot to install the knuckle pin roller before they fitted the inner cover).

I always thought you were supposed to install that pin on the second time around? Or buy a few mk3 pins. Jim

But could it be re riveted to accommodate the pin, cos that was my intention the parts are ordered.
Or am I just wasting time and money?

I think you'd also have to machine the boss, as the later K/S spring is wider (more turns).

If your needing a Commando cover it would be simpler to put the Atlas cover on e-bay and buy the right cover. There are several differences.
