Norton 961 Alternate parts list.

Folks,

As the future of parts for our bikes is uncertain I'm collating a list of alternate parts for 961's. This is purely a list, so please don't start commenting, comparing one against the other or generally derailing (as has been know to happen on the odd occasion here) I've already mentioned this to Jerry and if we can keep it in a common format he will see about putting together a sticky list. So here is what I've got together so far. Feel free to add, but please just the description, manufacturer and their part number plus any helpful notes as you see below. Alternatively just P.M. me and I will add to the list. (It will probably be neater that way actually)

Hello, I'm new here and my first contribution. I have a 2018 Sport Anniversary that I got August 2021. Would like to add to this parts compilation. My bike has Brembo brake & clutch pumps that use the Ducati 916/748 levers of models up to 1998. I dunno what previous model years use but as soon as I got the bike I recognised 'em - having owned a 916 Strada for 18 yrs... I've swapped 'em out for some cool black CNC alloy fully adjustables found on fleabay. When I've figured out how to contribute fully I'll upload some pix. Furthermore, I've devised a rider seat securing mod that dispenses with the utterly hopeless 'two bolts' in favour of a proper latch. If anyone is interested?

Definitely interested in the seat mod, and thanks for the info on the controls. Please continue posting details.

Welcome Jon, all info. on replacement parts or improvements very welcome thanks. For the seat mod perhaps start another thread though? ( it will be easier to find). and will be quite popular by the sounds of it. If you want to upload pics directly sign up as a VIP member, otherwise choose a hosting site such as Google drive, and paste the link in your post.

Cheers,

cliffa.

@cliffa Whilst I know this isn't stricly a part - it might help.

I went searching for replacement plug leads and the thing I didn't know was the length.

Maybe we could record the lengths in the alternate parts list? That way if someone needs leads they can just get leads in the correct length.

Based on below - I'd make the CONDUCTOR (where the clip sits on the plug rather than the boot) length 220mm and 400mm with the boot extending past that.

A few more to add:

Gauge surround, chrome, VDO part number: A2C5319291801
Mount / Standoff, VDO part number: A2C59510854
Mode button (the one in the middle of the dash), VDO part number: 240 205

I’ve been looking everywhere for the Domi and Commando tail light lenses. Anyone have any luck with these?
They were made by Tri.o.m

Im also looking for a Domi Naked tail with the Union Jack in matte finish.
Thank you all.

The Domi light is easy enough to find via google images, and then follow back to a vendor. I matched up the same design, but in red as for me the red lamp suits the bike better than the clear. The American Domi tail light was different to UK spec though, wider and flatter from what I recall.

Correct. I have the UK clear and it is not even the same bolt spacing. I tried doing all kinds of google searches here and nothing comes up. I’d like to find a new Red Domi tail light and also a commando tail light.

I was told that the lamp is the same as a Buell Firebolt, but not had any confirmation. It certainly looks like it though…

If anybody can confirm we can add another part to the ever growing list.
Thank you. I just found this because of your help and I ordered one to see if it’s a match. I’ll let you all know if it fits the Commando.

Some time ago I did an online search for the codes printed on the light and it came out that it is the same code as the V7 and California 1100 Guzzi light, the manufacturer is Italian ECIE srl.
Visually it is the right one, but I have not made any tests

This would make sense that Norton would buy European parts . The sourcing from Europe would have been easier and cheaper for Norton.

I had a look at my USA Dominator rear light yesterday and it looks like a tri.o.m unit, Spelt just like that with the lowercase "t" and those periods. Looks like the model# is 220192
Has anyone info on this company. Not much online about them

That's a tough one. Tri.O.m seem to be a big supplier to Vespa and according to this page have been bought out by a company called Varroc.

Can someone just confirm that idle air motor part number please, as Ive not ordered any for a while, and what Ive jotted down differs? Ive got Löwe 57770 as being standard fitment, and 57174 being the same unit but with the connector at 12 o'clock, as apposed to 9 o'clock.
Cheers!

yes, they also run hotter than omron or bosch which I think leads to quicker failures. That's just my observations but from using a temperature gun to check them as well.
Cheers again for this suggestion.....Ive got through around 25 of them since last year, not a single failure to report (touch wood)!
Only problem now is sourcing them, out of stock with my main supplier in Germany at present.
