Norton 961 Alternate parts list.

That may just be the nature of the diode?
Ive ordered a batch of Bosch sensors to give a go anyhow, so cheers for the heads up.
 
I’ve run the larger Durite relays for years in cars without a single failure (6 used and been there for 11 years, no issues) But not these mini types....so keen to see what reliability is like. No problems so far, but early days on my bike.

This is fantasic Cliffa; I've recently also just dropped my 2018 Cafe, (fell off stand!) not much damage as i tried to hold it from falling hard! pinged off the clutch bar end,
I've been told it's the same Brembo part as the Ducati 1098? any idea? I'm not in a hurry as i like that i can leave pinky on the bar and still clutch.

The Durites are a diode relay, and the blue Norton relays are resistor types. I'm not 100% on interchangeability.... I'm waiting for more info.

Hi - used a relay with diode in in it a while back - pretty sure it was the lighting relay - and the power to the coil was the wrong way for the diode. Had to cut/swap coil wires from loom.
 
Do you mean clutch lever? If so, yeah anything listed for a 1098 will fit. The same style masters are used on loads of bikes, the 1098's are just before they had a slight facelift with the colour and Brembo logo, but the hardware is still the same.

Being an owner of one of the Anniversary 961's (and first post), these alternative parts lists have been invaluable; especially as the new Norton company has left us in the wilderness to fend for ourselves, so thank you so much! :)

One that I have used from other posts was the alternative throttle position sensor, which was the Magnet Marelli part number PF2C used on Alfa Romeo's (https://www.bikesportdevelopments.co.uk/pf2c---throttle-position-sensor-alfa-selespeed-gearbox)

The OMRON (Honda 38502-MCS-G01) relays used on Honda Pan European was a good call, fun explaining to the dealer why I wanted them though!

Also I'm slight confused, as I saw posts from the ex-Norton employee Nikoli around the clutch plates and the EBC platesnot being suitable? have owners fitted these?

I never really understood that guy. I'm an ex-Norton 961 engine build employee. I can whole heartily assure you that the plates were not made specifically for Norton....they were Yamaha items. They came in a big box and were individually packaged in Yamaha packets, that we had to fanny about unpacking and grouping up into sets.
Pictured is myself, holding a Yamaha plate whilst stood in engine build at Donington.
EBC make some excellent aftermarket replacements.

Hi Alex and welcome. I'm really pleased that you've found the list useful and thanks for the info on the TP sensor. I'll add it to the top of the thread and ask Jerry to add it to to list.

I'm not sure what connection Nikoli had to Norton, but I suspect it was as a supplier not an employee. I didn't see his comment about the clutch plates, but as Stu (ex Norton engine builder) mentioned he unpacked and fitted enough of them to know. There is a thread on here somewhere where EBC actually identified the correct plates and supplied them to one of our merry band and they are the same as Yamaha items.

This is the same one that's used on moto guzzi and various Harleys as a substitute as well

I never said that the clutch plates were made specifically for Norton. I said it was the ‘clutch’ assembly. I also said the clutch plates were high quality Japanese items, and that the EBC items were not used by Norton as they chose not to use them. I also said the original plates were sourced from a UK supplier. Yes, you are correct they were Yamaha, but I believe the intent was to set up supply from Vesrah, which is what indeed happened later on. The Yamaha items were supplied as individual items at high prices, were by the high quality Vesrah items could be supplied in bulk at good value. I seem to remember that there was concern over the quality of using EBC items.
 
They were using Yamaha plates right up until the end, as I took that photo July 2020, whilst on a part number gathering quest for future reference, before quitting (they'd just announced moving to Solihull).
You could have just written Yamaha instead of high quality Japanese items.
There was rarely concern over using EBC products....quite a few 961's were supplied with ebc front brake discs, for example, when they were on stop with Brembo.

What happened to using Vesrah, did they fall out with them as I know they did use them in the early days? The Yamaha supply wasn't a sustainable solution just in interim until the got organised. Probably didn't pay the bills and had to go back to using the credit card with Fowlers.
As a side note. Vesrah are the OEM for Yamaha and others. They would be a good source of plates of they are still trading ?

Nikoli, thanks for clarifying that. Seeing your information and feedback in the forum and now Stu's felt like there was real valuable incite coming through, that could help keep the bikes on the road in a sustainable and non trial and error way. Especially while new Norton were on Radio silence about supporting the exisiting 961's. Very much appreciated, and thank you again .

Dunno, never known them to use anything but Yamaha. I was using Yamaha plates there in 2016, and they were still using them when it went belly up. The BOM just states Yamaha as the supplier. Cant find a buy in price for the frictions, I'll have another look later. But they were buying in Yamaha steels at £4.48 each, circa 2018.
