New Amal Premiers need filing

I have to admit it would NEVER occur to me to check a jet size other than by what is stamped on it. IOW, I can understand (though not like) the fact that a pair of "matched" carbs might come with a 200 in one and a 260 in the other but having a jet stamped as a 260 that had a 200 opening...now THAT is really a PITA, especially since I don't have a handy Amal jet orifice measuring tool! :( (Is there such a thing?)

My "matched " 850 commando set had no interference issues.
But they did have a 260 main jet in one carb and a 200 in the other. Not mis-stamped. They measured 260 and 200 !

Hi John, did you mean they were both stamped 260 and only one was measured as 260.......? the other is 200 !! not good , I know we must check them thoroughly before using , but ..........

"Not mis-stamped" so one carb had a 260 main jet and the other had a 200 or at least that's how I read it.

All copy , that was me who did not read well , sorry about ....! hope Santa Claus will bring me a better pair of glasses and dictionnary..!

I too bought the new premiers for my T150, not impressed by quality control. 2 of the 3 carbs progression holes had not been drilled fully & sent back, also found a burr inside 1 of the slides where the throttle cable nipple sits which made the slide fit "higher" than it should.

One was stamped 260 and measured 260. The other was stamped 200 and measured the same as other 200s I had. I checked carefully because a 6 can look like a 0 to old eyes in bad light. I just guaged them with drill bits which i know is not accurate enough but can certainly tell the difference between a 260 and a 200. Plus I had a range of jets to compare to from my 500 racing days.

So someone had built up a "matched set" with a genuine 260 in one carb and a genuine 200 in the other.

I can also now report I have had more issues with these carbs transitioning off idle. I changed the pilot from 17 to 19 and now 21 and I also change the slides to 3 from 3.5. The bike seemed awfully lean coming of idle and refused to take throttle off idle - even when warm. I also cleaned and guaged all the internal drillings blowing carb clean through everything.

It seems to be happy now.
