If it is any consolation I find the Amals that I have updated to almost the Premier spec great.

The idle is rock solid steady at 1000 rpm and they carburate nicely through the range.

I am not sure if the electronic ignition assist in the repeatable steady idle, but i am sure setting the fuel level in the float chamber, accurately via a actual fuel level, rather than float height is a step in thew right direction.

Hei guys who fitted the JS carbs,

I would like to fit these carbs to my 850 Mk3 presently in build. So far no one could assure me they will match the Mk2A-Mk3 air box which I consider an asset on this model.
Did anyone try to hook them up and how did you make the connection? An image or two would be great.
Jim wasn't able to provide specific info to this question, so any advice you may give is gratefully received.

Thanks,
Knut

The PWK carb (as well as other brands) needs to be heavily modified to work as a single carb on a Norton. As it comes from the manufacturer it will not flow enough fuel to keep up with wide open throttle- the fuel bowl will run dry and your bike will cut out and surge just when you are 1/2 way around passing a truck and facing oncoming traffic. The JS single carb kit comes with a much larger float needle jet to keep up with the fuel demand of full throttle. The fuel passages are also drilled oversize to supply enough fuel to the float needle. It also has a custom needle that I designed and is supplied to me independently. The float is set up differently as well. You can run the JS single 34mm carb at wide open throttle until you run out of gas with no loss of power from fuel starvation. I spent a whole lot of time blasting up and down lonely country roads working out these modifications. No other PWK flatside carb comes with these custom features. I go to a lot of extra trouble for my customers. There are similar starvation problems with other brands of single 32 & 34mm carbs on Norts because a single carb gets about twice the fuel demand as a dual carb setup (twice as many intake cycles per carb per engine revolution). Similar modifications are made for the JS twin flatlside carb kit.

The JS flatlside kit is a complete kit - not just a carb.
