meanwhile...........my honda shadow aero cruiser bike appliance sits in corner of garage smiling the smug smile of the boring and plain vanilla sort of existence
If that 50mph was in 4th gear, then I can see the plugs being dark. I'm usually in 3rd doing 50mph. My plugs are grey, but I have yet to burn a hole in the top of the pistons. They use to be black, but I made a plug change. I run a hotter platinum plug with more reach than most, and don't use NGK. Not using Amals anymore either, but carburetion tuning is close to the same on every carburetor.running 50mph two miles then pulling into driveway and cutting off bike asap....the search for the Waffle House waffle golden brown holy grail sparkling plug color
Why not just use what the book says ?i confess i have never ridden the bike over 55mph or over 4500 rpm (country roads in 45-55mph range) maybe my riding style has something to do with dark plugs what if i go up a heat range to something liker N9Y but i dont want to burn hole in piston
Plug heat range should have nothing to do with overall temps in the combustion chamber. It just refers to how effectively the plug ceramic sheds heat to the air. A hotter plug retains heat while colder sheds more. This only effects how the plug electrodes accumulate carbon deposits.i confess i have never ridden the bike over 55mph or over 4500 rpm (country roads in 45-55mph range) maybe my riding style has something to do with dark plugs what if i go up a heat range to something liker N9Y but i dont want to burn hole in piston
With just a diet of Morrison's Unleaded:
Yup, the one SU on my classic mini is marvelously trouble free. And an S.U. carb right ?
No pilot jets to clog up and perfect metering from the get-go.

"Bike Appliance" I love that term and that about sums up Hondas and many modern bikes, but what is the missing element ?meanwhile...........my honda shadow aero cruiser bike appliance sits in corner of garage smiling the smug smile of the boring and plain vanilla sort of existence
The Phoenix kit uses the same SU as found (in pairs) on the V8 MGBGT... So essentially the same as used for a four cylinder 1750.. Nothing like erring on the side of caution, no?Yup, the one SU on my classic mini is marvelously trouble free.
Just gots 'ta have one made smaller to fit on the Norton ;-)
We need to have @madass140 get this kit revived! The Phoenix kit uses the same SU as found (in pairs) on the V8 MGBGT... So essentially the same as used for a four cylinder 1750.. Nothing like erring on the side of caution, no?
