Ms Peel

He lost his best pal and then his foot.
I’m guessing life just took a different turn for him.
Discussions on the net about obsolete old motorbikes perhaps just suddenly seemed less important?

"Commando Choppers please

Excluding the factory version, Commando Choppers please
anyone got some nice rebellious against the grain righteous isolastic choppers to show ?
Molded frame would be extra icing on the cake to me.
No front brake extra points on style and flippant attitude statement."

That was obviously a wind up IMHO! So I cannot believe any response was taking badly.

Dang. That resurrected yet another thread with "no longer available" photos I posted over the years from my now defunct PictureTrail account...

Truly a shame. Those missing photos really had me hurting for some bad to the boner chopper shots.... anybody got some hanging around?

I wonder how Steve got those rear shocks to work without fouling the chain/guard?
Anyone know or have info for the front disc/rotor?

Well, i sent a pm, last time i did he responded but apparently he hasn't checked in ~ 10 mnths now.

Deff a character who stood out here in a BIG way, leaving a lasting impression that only a minority or few others will. Maaan, the stories & how he went about communicating it all. I also only came in near the ending of Hobot's time here so missed most of it.

Dunno what the story is around GP & the fork brace...

I like these vids

To be clear it was post #43 I was responding to, and it was Hobot‘s post #1 that you linked that I was referring to ie Commando choppers…

Anyone who goes onto a one make forum and starts talking about chopping that make is, of course, kicking the hornets nest and is bound to get stung!

Despite his on line persona to the contrary, Hobot is an intelligent guy, so he knew this.

Therefore, an intelligent guy who deliberately kicks the hornets nest for a bit of fun, in the knowledge he’s gonna get a bit sting in return. That’s the definition of a wind up in my book!

And… I never said I didn’t like the post. Quite the contrary !!

As for ‘the rest’ I thought people might link that post to the accusations he was hounded off of the forum, because, obviously, he would have received some flak in that thread. And IMHO I don’t think that’s the case, I think he would have expected the flak and found it hilarious !

Ya, never know how new folks or the next gen riders reading stuff here for the first time, how it will come across.

There was no link intended here to the neg stuff. Hobot for me was on another level, a unique standout & mostly highly entertaining. Drove some folks here batty tho lol...

Dunno if he was the only one running what i assume he came up with the tri link setup

I don’t think Hobot came up with the Tri-link set up, there are definitely other guys on here running similar. I suspect the idea may have come from the Harley world where similar set ups were created for the rubber mounted ‘Dyna’ range.

I just re read that whole Norton Commando Chopper thread from start to finish.

Freakin hilarious !!

I rode my mates rubber mount Dyna it was by far the most evil handling bike I have ever ridden
And I used to own a sprung hub thunderbird and a plunger A10
Now I thought these were bad handling bikes until I rode that Harley
When I handed it back I told him there is something wrong with his bike because it didn't even handle in a straight line!!
You had to change your body weight as you changed gear FFS
He told me there was nothing at all wrong with it!!!
I still think there was something wrong that he'd just got used to because I don't see how you could sell it to the public like that!
It put me off Harley's
I only ever rode one over big twin and that wasn't quite as bad
I assume they are a lot better now?

Well, I’ve got a 2016 Dyna and it handles fine, surprisingly good really. But it’s REALLY low mileage (800 miles when I bought it last year). So I don’t know if they improved the design in later years, or if the handling issues some bikes suffer are simply due to them being worn out ?

This would have been back in the 90s can't remember exactly when
So I don't know how old/what model exactly ?
It was extremely heavy

Mine just under 300kg.

Sounds heavy huh?

It’s not much more than a modern BMW GS !

Worlds gone mad.
