I doubt leather would help swoosh here, he not trying to seal the cap, just secure it.

Hence others suggesting o rings, they squish and grip and to a great job of securing such things.

But as Swoosh has no need to frequently remove the caps, I‘d still suggest a simple dab of silicone on the threads is all that’s needed here.

I like the leather idea. It has a certain Panaché that goes with the Norton.

I put one of the stock o-rings on, it didn't seem to do anything. I don't think the new cap was cut in a way to use an o-ring.

Long time ago my MK3 stopped halfway between Red Bluff and Redding, fuel pouring everywhere. The drain plug from one of the Amals had come out. This could have been an absolute disaster but by a MIRACLE it had lodged in front of the starter motor.
Out for a ride and near home the highway was wide open, so I decided to check if it would still do the "ton". Well, it did, but when I backed off it started running on one, so I figured something broke. I kept going and made it home but noticed my leg was getting gas on it while going up the drive. Drain plug missing, now they're safety wired! I didn't have someone videoing me and it wasn't stuck in front of the starter, so I just ordered a new one :).

I bet if that drain plug would have cost you $65 to replace you'd be out on the road looking for it.

A once younger and faster me lowsided a Honda CBR on a "spirited" Saturday morning run in the country. It couldn't have happened in a better spot as there was no hedge or anything on the rightside of the road where I ended up. Cracked fairing, some plastic corners missing, a bent clutch lever a scraped footpeg and my ego was all that was damaged. I limped home ok and set about fixing everything. In about 3 weeks I had assembled everything except these plastic screws that hold the windscreen to the fairing. Lockhart Philips (pre internet) and the Honda Dealer couldn't source them. Then a lightbulb went off and I returned to the scene to find the ones that were left there after my spill. I found the two necessary but also found Yamaha ,Kawi and other parts. As I was leaving a lady in a car pulled up and asked me if I was alright? I said I was fine but I fell like 3 weeks ago? "Oh" she said "theres someone in this bend every weekend, its like the Bermuda triangle for bikers or something". Then she added "I live down this road here and I've had to move my mailbox cos they've knocked it down 3 times"
