961 clutch disassembly and inspection day 1

The fairing is indeed for thruxton r and rs. I found it on Ebay used for about half price. I have a thruxton rs also so I grabbed this one up for the norton. It's almost a perfect fit. There's another thread from last year where some folks talk about the mounting. The panniers are cheap Chinese off Ebay for less than 100 dollars and my painter matched them nicely. I used the hardware that came with them with minimal modification. If you want I can see if I can find a link.

Likin the funky panniers Boss! Where did those hail from - they would suit nicely when I eventually do my old man high bar conversion! The fairing also - a thruxtion fairing retrofitted? More pics would be cool.

Thanks Boss, I’ll have a good look at the thread. I’ve looked into the Thruxton fairing before and an ally one available online. Really like the look of it, especially on the Cafe Racer.

It was easy to mount on the Norton. You can soft mount (brace) or hard mount (weld an accepting piece). You can keep your headlight but it needs to be tucked back in about an inch into the fairing via modifying the provided headlight mount with 2 new drilled holes. I did that after the pictures were taken so you can see the headlight sticking out in these pics. Not sure if the cafe is different.

The fairing for Thruxton comes with a plastic routing box but it does not fit on the norton. I see no evidence of any issues with the wiring and since the fairing is steering head mounted there is no movement or tugging on the harness. Pictures of the wiring below on the Norton and Thruxton.

And everything seems well routed too.
It was a breeze. The only innovation came with the steering head mount and recessing the headlight. Also relocating the turn signals down onto the motorcycles frame from the headlight. As in pic.

With the Jam Tool that Richard Coote made your balance gear will stay jammed until you take off the gear puller and then you can lock the balance gear with the shorter bolts as he shows in his manual.
We had some backlash gear springs failing, so the revised installation method was to back off preload by one tooth, so when installing it, when you look into those holes, its more like a half moon.....if that makes sense?

Ive lost tack of the revisions! Its like every item had a TSB
