The DVD or the post comment?

I'm pretty sure Mr. Hemmings use of the Queens English is understandable by most in the U.K.
The reason I have asked is that me and a lot of other people in this world are now very hard of hearing and can't watch any tv programme without subtitles. Queens English or not, I'll never get my hearing back now.

jumping outa 1st gear when accelerating issues come up so good idea to look close at associated parts

"If the kicker shaft is allowed to move to the right because of excess end play then first speed gear is also able to move to the right. When first speed gear moves to the right it moves away from the gear next to it which is held in position by the shift fork. Then there is reduced engagement of the dogs so they tend to push apart.
It is an easy fix and something that should be checked on every gearbox rebuild. Jim"

2nd gear
"Second gear slipping could be Bronze bushing wear or the layshaft bearing starting to go or a bad adjustment of the shifting index via the hair pin spring and or the sprung pin holding the shifter cam plate. Or a racing shift doeing off the engagment dags for that gear"

I see, sorry about my attempt at humour, eh?

I will load up my dvd and see if subtitles are a thing for you.

Just checked it and seems no subtitling present. I know on youtube videos there is option to run an auto translate for subtitling. Pretty poor but can help a little. This video isn't uploaded on youtube as far as I know.
There are some pretty descent write ups on doing the GB I came across while prepping for this. OldBritts had one and a few others I'll have look round for.

Thanks for looking. Already tried stereo headphones plugged into tv, have joined h/phone wires together to get double mono! Could hear most proghams 30 years ago, but my hearing has deteriorated over last 25 years to almost nothing. Just have to smile and live with it.

Bernhard,

I have both gearbox and engine rebuild videos from Mick Hemmings and there is unfortunately no subtitles.
I have Cicadas... hundreds of them singing in my ears most of the time . Its called Tinnitus. I feel for you. Comes with age.
Cheers,
Tom

Sorry to "hear" that.

The Old Britts tech article referenced is quite good for gearbox rebuild, if you havent seen it, as are the other ones in the series.

This is also interesting

Yes , seen the Old Brits one, which is the one I'll be following. That rg norton is a new one to me.

I get titnitus sometimes, the only reason I don't Cicadas singing is because I can't hear them!
