Calling on the 961 collective, I need help to diagnose and find a fix, if I can for, for a gremlin occurring on my 2015 SF.

On a recent long trip my engine would cut out at around 4300rpm in 5th gear. It happens consistently when gently accelerating and decelerating passed this engine speed, but only in 5th Gear. The cut out only last about 1 second and the engine starts again. I can ride around this by accelerating and decelerating more enthusiastically.

However, what is causing this? Throttle position sensor, ECU glitch or something else? Your help and/or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi , Stuart, I haven't got a 961 , make sure all your grounds are good , ecu's can do funny things with bad connections , is it losing fuel pressure ? Standard car injection is 3 bar , pump relay ? Dodgy fuse ? I had a Mazda car that hesitated a lot, then one day it died and that was the cam position sensor . Cheers

Hi Stuart , Your 2015 probably has a SC Typhoon ECU so a SC Delta interface box/cable laptop and free software would be helpful for diagnosing. I however had a similar experience with a tip over sensor going bad on my 2014 Sport. The motor would cut out when I was on the freeway and happened to be in 5th gear. I put this down to chance and some resonant vibration this bike is know for. If you don't mind buying some parts to try and see you could get to the soultion this way. Also the suggestion about checking connections and grounds is free . Look at the ground points on the engine case and frame under seat . The main fuse under tank (check connection and ziptie fuse) and battery cables have had known issues . If this problem is consistent , that should be helpful to resolve it.

Thank you Tony, certainly good food for thought there.

Before you buy the cable @TonyA suggested, it would be good to know from SCS if you could use this with it:

Being able to leave it connected whilst riding would give you pretty accurate data for a tilt switch or other sensor.

NEEDS TO SEE IF HE HAS A SWITCH FIRST. THEN STATIC TEST THE SWITCH BEFORE ANYTHING. SORRY FOR CAPS

Took me a long time to work out that my intermittent engine cut out was due to dislodged cable ends in the positive terminal cable. There were two cables (badly) secured into a single non insulated terminal end - bad practice of course. Worth checking but can’t imagine it would manifest at the same revs each time, nor in the same gear. Hope you can pin it down quick Stuart - I know how frustrating such a fault can be.

Engine cutting out at speed.

I have had similar problems, since I replaced all the relays it hasn't happened yet
Claudio,
Interesting. I have the tank and saddle of at the moment checking electrical connections and I might just change them all, because I can and see what transpires when it is back together.
Thank you.
