Clutch nut falls off!

Correct, get rid of the tab washer, drill very small holes through the two flats of the nut and run the lockwire through any two openings on the clutch centre.
I dont have a pic loaded on photobucket, but the clutch is due for a winter(here) refresh so will load a pic eventually

A bit off topic but . .

I was looking to get rid of that flat steel (split?) washer in order to comfortably fit a push rod seal, ie - tab washer only, clutch nut with Loctite, and new push rod seal with Loctite also
Is this still the best arrangement for late mk 5 / 750 ? were there 2 different generations of tab washer made ?

cheers
Stu

I went out for a little pootle about on my Commando yesterday in the sun and had the embarrassment of having to be recovered on a truck.....
The clutch nut had almost completely undone itself. As per another threads it seems the tab washer is too soft and had been battered thin
allowing the nut to come lose <SNIP>

No, but I keep a stock of Belleville washers. That and a little blue locktie cures the problem. Jim

Jim, I like your idea of using a Belleville washer in place of the standard tab washer build up. A few questions, please:

- what thickness of Belleville washer do you recommend? I note that Belleville washers with a 5/8" ID are made in about 4 different metal thicknesses
- when installing the Belleville washer, do you face its cupped side toward the clutch, or toward the nut?
- I note that in an earlier post you mentioned using red Loctite, but above you state blue. Is Blue Loctite good enough, or would Red be safer?

Many thanks!
.. Gregg
