Show me your favorite and cleverest non-standard battery hold down.

If someone doesn't show at least one bungie cord I'll be disappointed.

But I'd rather see some trick setups.

And... go!

I’m a velcro fan...

I put adhesive backed velcro on the bottom and side of the battery, and on the battery tray and oil tank, and stick the bugger in there. It’s pretty solid.
For ‘belt and braces’ I also put and elasticated velcro strap over it.

Velcro here too. Did try a tie down type strap but the battery would move around, Velcro cured that.

Here is some period anti-trick.

When I got my bike in '89, there was not battery tie down.

So, I pulled out a period correct ski-retention strap. Red, white and blue, just like my old mirror glasses and K2 skiis. This is what it looked like almost 30 years later and 10 years in the shed unused.

When I fitted Alton starter I had to accommodate a larger battery. I used a strap, having cut a slot on the bottom of the battery tray for the strap to go through. It also holds the Alton starter solenoid in place on top of the battery.

+1 for Velcro on the back of battery & carrier.... rock solid it be

+2 on Velcro, though my Shorai battery only weighs 3 lbs and it doesn't move. I used the factory hold down and straps up until last summer with a 9 AH battery. One of our members ( Greg Marsh? ) has shown a very well done hold down bracket that he made which clamps the battery to the bottom of the tray.

I used Velcro on the other bike but it’s got a tiny battery. This bike has a big Odyssey.

I still may try the Velcro as soon as I can find my Velcro stash.

I'm using the industrial type 3M Dual-Lock hook & fastner (aka "velcro" -like) on the battery. Used contact cement to stick it to underside of battery and on the tray. Just one, 2" wide section, full battery length, does a remarkable job holding it down. To remove battry, I need to lever one corner up enough to get the release to happen.

Easy. Get a package of the largest size HD cable ties from Walmart, their brand. Come in only 4-5 to a package for $4. Long and wide. Connect 2 together and go around the battery tray, in between the terminals. Works great and lightweight. Batt not going anywhere.

I don't like the silly standard battery hold down and straps, so I make one for each bike. The battery is sitting on rubber and the right side and back are protected by 1/8" high-density stick on foam. That same foam lines the hold down bracket. This all protects the battery and firmly holds it in place. I meant to weld the bolt in but forgot before I powder coated so this one is a very tight fit and epoxied in place. The bracket is 1" wide, 1/8" thick steel from Home Depot bent using a vice and hammer.

My hold down is similar to marshg246. I added thin black silicon pad to contact area with battery on the strap and in process of fabricating a simple nob for the bottom of tray fastener for ease of removal. Area below and in back of the battery on the tray also has the non-slip silicone pad.

Seeing as how Dave asked for a Bungee Cord and hasn't gotten one yet, happy to oblige. Sub-optimal but some of the above posts offer motivation for improvement. Works well enough so far, but haven't yet tried inversion and shaken not stirred. Maybe a combination of @marshg246's solution plus bungee to hold the catch bottle in place.

A couple of strips of velcro on the bottom of the batt and pan with an anchor strap. Absolutely zero movement or wandering.

A mate made a few of these some years back.
If wondering why 2 fuses, one for main electrics (+earth/ground) and the other for radar detector (- earth/ground)
Whole item is bolted to existing battery tray and I use urethane for the battery to sit on and also under the top clamp.
Regards Mike

That is what I do now, with large reusable cable ties and a bit of foam stick to the bottom and far side of battery.

This might be more sacrilegious than a bungee cord but I might try a Guzzi battery strap. They actually used the exact same part from 1972 through to the early 2000s. It was originally a rear tank hold down strap and then later used as a battery hold down strap. I had it on my 1975 850-T and it’s on my 2001 V11 Sport. Pretty impressive. I’m not sure if it will work but I can take a look at it.
