Ouch. What’s that out of ?

Katoom 790 parallel twinOuch. What’s that out of ?
I use mobil 1 15/40 . No visible wear at any part when doing preventative tinkering ! I rebuilt a humber sceptre mk3 engine, new rings , crank regrind, valves camshaft reborn +40 etc. Everything really. After running on old school oil for the first 1000 ml I changed to Mobil 1. After 70000 or so miles a valve burnt out due to cheap unleaded shit petrol ! On disassembly the engines top end had no noticeable wear anywhere. Like it had just been rebuilt ! Lifetime convert !! Roy. The bore had no wear whatsoever.
"Scientifically Treated Petroleum"STP is an acronym for the code name of their original series of ads.
It refers to their potential customers and it stands for " Such Trusting People"
That's nice Al!For a race bike viscosity is probably more important than wear characteristics, and particularly when the oil pump is gear type and not plunger. A gear pump can probably pass more garbage and still work. A plunger pump probably gives higher pressure, but garbage can hold the balls of their seats. Road bikes probably need more oil changes. They do a lot more miles. The oil which is currently in my bike is high detergent 50 something, and intended to be used in diesel motors. I have never worried about it as long as it is 50 viscosity. It has to float the big end bearings when the engine is hot.

That really sounds someone trying hard to find the least suitable grade of oil!One of the members on the Delta Ride a few years back had 0w-30 oil in his Commando on a warm day. Before the end of the ride his engine had seized.
A plunger pump can give huge pressure, so long as it’s not the undersized oil pump struggling to feed the big ends of an old Triumph or Ariel motorbike.A plunger pump probably gives higher pressure, but garbage can hold the balls of their seats.
The older Enfield twin and Bullet pumps looked a bit bonkers. Did the S2 use something similar?A Triumph plunger pump is NASA level stuff compared to the idiotic pump in the Enfield Interceptor Series 2.
