961 is back !

Well, if by that you mean that I end up arguing a lot with Mr Spencer, yes, I agree.

Let’s just make a list of all of the other people I argue that much with in my 19,000 plus posts… err… well… erm… no… it’s just Stephen !

Praps we should start a 3 way Eddie / Voodoo / Spencer thread and keep the other threads clean !

We could even do a ‘pay per view’ with it !!
This would be EPIC!
This literally made me laugh out loud.

I know the brembos on the 961 are more than adequate, but for the price of the bike, why not M50 or Stylema ?

I don’t think that deleting such a long thread, within which there is lots of healthy discussion, is appropriate personally.

However, it is clear that the audience here doesn’t really want to discuss the critiques.

I have no skin in the game and thus nothing to gain from critiquing things no one wants to hear.

So I’ve just tidied up my posts by removing any that were critical.

Should be a happier place now !

It's not about being critical, that people accept as a balanced conversation, It's when you batter a subject to death then bury it, then a few days later dig it up and batter it again just for the sake of it. It gets very boring and tedious. 🪃

But that is not what was happening, things kept being re raised due to the nature of the debate / argument, to counter apposing viewpoints, etc.

Which I nevertheless agree was / is boring and tedious, and basically futile.

Which 961 do you own? Donington or Solihull?
Can you provide your personal opinions of either or both?

The thread title is “961 is back”
And already a few are having issues before their first service.
We all keep saying it’ll be addressed.
We all keep saying it should not of happened.

What’s sad is, it is happening and the owners who are going through it are displeased.

Nobody said Norton won’t fix it. Just imagine if they refused to address the issue. That would be a breach of warranty.

What some of us are unhappy about is how after 13 years. 2 ownerships of Norton.
New eyes on the same problems, all the talk of state of the art testing and engineering equipment.
Supposedly rolling road testing before leaving the factory and some, although a few, owners have idle or other issues.

Then you have a few people on here who constantly see no problem. Yet they cry about the price of service parts.
These same people bought a Donington bike well aware of the risk they were taking before purchasing their 961.
They knew if they did simple research that the Donington bikes came with problems.

How would one expect to feel if a potential buyer waited the long haul, only to see their dream bike become under new ownership and promised a superior quality product. Only to witness problems right off the bat.

Have any of you ever waited so long for something that you wanted, then shortly thereafter problems arise?
I have. It’s very disappointing.

I feel bad for the ones who are going through this. I don’t care if it’ll be addressed at the service or not. I’m not one to take my purchase back to any dealers. I fix them myself.
Not everyone has the same experience.

2015 Donnington Sport

Somebody please delete this whole thread. It's unnecessary and not helping to progress the good name of Norton. Put to rest all this negativity and get on with improving this amazing machine.
The good name of Norton? 75 stopped being a "name" and the resurrection has been fraught with fraud multiple times plus having TVS as an owner hasnt been such a shining example based upon the sales. The negativity is warranted but even if it wasnt its still banter that if TVS is reading the forums they would see people are unhappy so that actually should help improve than hurt.

Also, do you own a 961? As the owner of three and one of the few shops that service them so I can say what I want along with Voodooo who owns multiple as well.

I agree that the voice of actual owners is important. Very important. As (of course) is the avoidance of trolls in settings like this.

However, for a company (any company) trying to generate sales of their products, the most important feedback they can get is from the guy / girl who enters their showroom with the intent and means to buy… and leaves empty handed.

If you want to know why more people aren’t buying your products, there’s your best source of information right there… way better than any market research, focus group feedback, etc.

For the record, I was an owner of a 2018 Donington 961 (but sold it for various reasons not to be discussed here). I put a deposit on a Superlight that obviously got cancelled when that product range was dropped. And was a potential buyer of a new TVS 961 who declined (for reasons not to be discussed here).

I have and continue to spend an embarrassing amount of money on motorcycles, am a nutter for anything British made, and frankly, am a salesman’s dream... and yet I have spent nought with TVS (as is the case with most on here)… my point being, could TVS do more to capitalise on such potential customer spend.

I have tried hard to write the above in a way that is informative, without miss-characterising anyone, and in a style that is not (too) tedious or boring. I hope I’ve succeeded.

Anyone see the updates on the TVS Norton on Facebook? Pretty disappointing and sad for the owner.
