He said tank liner not cowl. I took a closer look at one of the pics and it is a steel tank. Than strip out the liner and fix it RIGHT if it is reparable not with some POS liner. If is Swiss cheese from rust than spring for an emgo replacement.
My tank is very sound and was so years ago when I first lined it .
Tank linings eliminate any issues of rust contamination in fuel and the attendant blocking of fuel passages that comes with said contamination.

Then you've no care to change out inline fuel filters like me. Electrolysis got most all of the rust, but about every month or 300mi. I've got to pull and blow the filters from the back side to get the silt still coming from nooks and crannies. Interior looks clean though through the camera.... The shadow knows the truth of it though. The tales read of lining scared me off it.
Don't have to... Just think it's unsightly. Slowing down to almost none lately.

ALL tank liners WILL fail , it is just a matter if time. You can slosh it with oshpo to stop the rudt or as stared or electolosis to remove rust. Also keeping it full will help to krep it rust free.

Bike looks great Rick. Let us know when the start up is. Ben
Thanks Ben - start up a ways off yet .
Electrical work done and progressing with the brakes.
I have begun the fiberglass work for the seat cowl using West System Epoxy and 4 oz. cloth.
The seat was tightly wrapped in a thin kitchen trash bag and then given a heavy application of paste wax as a release agent . Cloth then wetted out with resin in a deposable roller pan liner and draped over seat in three layers . After curing edges were roughly trimmed and seat put in place on bike to begin build up of rear area with high density epoxy adhesive filler to improve the shape which I think looks a little pinched off in it's stock form . This will be a lengthy process of filling, shaping, filling again - until satisfied with the shape and then another layup of multiple layers of cloth and resin over all . The wrinkles seen in one photo are in the plastic bag over the seat and will not effect the finish.

A little more progress on the seat cowl - final shape done and ready for a few more layups of 4oz cloth.
I think the cowl shape is a little more pleasing than the original Corbin shape at the tail - all subjective of course .

Nicely done Rick. It’s going to look great!

Very nicely done Rick. Great way to make the bike your own. I use the West System on the boat and love it. Ben

How will the cowl be affixed to the seat?
Hi grandpaul- there will be a stainless tab affixed to the underside of the cowl at rear center to hold the back end down and two through fasteners - one either side - in the ears at bottom front . These will require drilling through the seat base near the bottom and will be the only alteration to the seat itself. Hoping to use small stainless carriage bolt so I don’t need a slot to keep it from turning - details yet to be worked out.

Cowl nearly done - a few touch ups here and there and then work out the fastening .
couldn't resist setting tank in place . I have been thinking all along to do black with gold lining - both tank an cowl - but now toying with another scheme . Seeing as how the entire bike is black and silver with the exception of the bronze exhaust roses I am considering black with silver lining and script with perhaps a fine line of red on the outer edge of the silver lining. Black,Silver and Red - very traditional Norton colors of old. Any thoughts on this would be welcome ...

No need to dirty it up with fuel & fire... I can look an awesome ride outta that black beauty.

Fastening for seat cowl worked out - stainless tab at rear that tucks under seat and two stainless carriage bolts as through fasteners at the bottom front . The nuts will need facing on the lathe to reduce their depth for clearance issues at the frame rails and the heads need to be polished up.

I have been playing around with some striping tape . I am pretty happy withe the seat cowl - 1/8 "
line 1 " in from borders to match tank but I am undecided on what to do with the side panels.
I am thinking of either the original 750 Commando lettering ...

or eliminating the characters and adding a line around the perimeter ...

Difficult to get a good read on this with the cowl not yet in black but ...
Looking for opinions/input here if anyone dares to tread the slippery slope of subjective aesthetics.

Thanks for looking in- RT

Looks great.
I like the lettering but it is very hard to decide without the cowl in black.

Looks sharp either way
