72’ Final drive chain. DID?

Youll be awhile wearing that 530vx3 out. I'm still working on mine. About 9000 miles on and it is same as new for lift off at the rear sprocket ( negligible).
Same 530 on the 650ss as well. Dropped right on.

My chain arrived from AN this week (06.4025). Here are pics of the chain and the instructions:

Wow! If accurate, that's even narrower than the 10B-1 Specification. Pins: 18.8mm, Master 2.5mm wider (21.4 at master link). It should work fine with the master link installed either way.

I'll order one, test, and add it to my Chains Helper page.

I'm waiting for one of those with a DID 530vx3 to do the same - I've tried them on 750s and 850s. On 750 they damage. On 850s with a single inner primary to crankcase gasket the chain gets stuck. The ones I bought were this year. Also, someone mentioned MKIII. If they work on MKIII but not the rest, that would great to know. The 520vx3 work fine (with the right sprockets).

You know how to hurt a guy....
"If accurate" :p

The RK chain concours measured should work without shredding aluminum on the inner primary or gearbox. The 530VX3 chain master link pins are longer than the Dime City 530 master link pins. Not surprising considering the x-ring seal used on the VX3 chain. I had high hopes for the VX3 chain since I found it for under $100US, but it's too wide for my not Commando Norton. The VX3 chain only comes with rivet master links.

I like the Elite 10-B chain Andover sells. It fits without any interference and feels like well-made chain. Plenty strong enough for a little Norton twin. Probably only good for a few thousand miles if well maintained. I doubt they would go 40K miles though.

Interesting, the DID 520xv3 chains I've bought all came with a clip master (hard to get on) and the DID 530vx3 I bought came with both. All bought form Amazon.

I got that tidbit of no clip master link info off the DID website. It shows NA in the clip master link column for the 530VX3. I've never purchased one. It doesn't surprise me that it might come with both. Last two chains I bought said no master link, so I bought one for each. They came with both style master links. Now I have a collection of master links I'll never use. I like clips, but they are a PITA to get on and off.

The beauty of the Iwis 10B-1 (M106SL) is ease of disasembly/reassembly if you want to change sprocket size, or add the half link. It is slightly bluish in color like the original Renold chain that was on these bikes when new.

Lay one next to a 530 and the size difference is huge.

The last time I ordered about 5 in one go from the ChainMan, to save on shipping costs and deliver some to friends.

Ya, but I have three calipers, and they all three give different readings - minor differences, but different none the less.
Keeping the adjusting screws tight to the bean is key. Also measure as close to the beam as possible.

If you are worried about the strength of 520. Try US Tsubachi ( spelling ?) chain it's strength is at least 1/3 stronger then D.I.D. Ran stock Harley primary chain on a hot rod Sporty, chain lasted maybe 2 months, UST still in there.
Where did you get the information on chain strength difference?
Cheers

At the time I was in charge of pumps, gear boxes and water plants in a steel mill. We were investigating belt drives vs chain. sorry fifteen years ago. Our regular chain was 5,200 lbs tensile another brand was 7,500 and UST was advertised 10,000. These figures are for conversation not exact from memory. Some of this came out because we supplied the steel for UST links! But seriously in the 100 inch Sportster a primary wouldn't last, stretched, UST with stood the power. Searched web and DID is 8,500 EK is 9,000. Tsubaki Omega O-ring chain listed at 7,500 and a racing chain at 38kN good for 200 hp EK has one, 520 ZZZ with 9,400.

I have run this for decades, and it's cheap enough to toss over your shoulder annually. Works GREAT.

I ran the cheap RK's myself for years but gave up on them, they wear waaaay too fast IMHO...but they are a steal at about $35 IIRC. They did fit my Commando OK with no scraping. Switched to a KCM (not KMC, that is a different brand) recently and hope that works better, the reviews are good.
I use a spec from the bicycle world and replace chains when they reach 1% elongation and this leads to very long sprocket life in my experience. 24 links of a new quality MC chain is 15" exactly, 15 1/8 is about 0.75 elongation, 15 1/4 is about 1.5% etc.
(FWIW on a bicycle with 1/2" links it is simpler, when 24 links (12") elongate to 12 1/8" that is 1%)
