Winter Ride

My mates I ride with have all that on their phones and always looking at them on their bikes, myself although I have a mobil phone but not being a phone person I am old school and use my eyes for the weather before a ride when I wake up early I just walk outside and take notice what happening in the sky, if its overcast and looks like a bit of rain might be in the clouds depends if the clouds are high or low its still doesn't stop me going out as I got to travel up the coast usually about a hours ride up the highway to meet my mates and meet a few others on the way.
Best thing when its overcast or a little rain about it keeps the Harley boys at home it also keeps the temps down as well, but if we go out on a really hot day its always a early start 6am but we clock up a lot of miles on our rides and I usually get home about 3pm but we stick to the ranges where its cooler than down the low lands and off course having a vented jacket is very important and once riding its not to bad even at 38c but its very rare we get that high temp while out on our bike rides.

Well its true, a lot of my old mates have now gone down the Harley road and when a ride is arranged if there is a hint of rain or overcast they won't go out, some of my best day rides have been when overcast or a few light shower while out and when I get back home after a great day out, don't I let them know and tell them they better put their girly panties back on, the good thing about us Aussies is we can put sh.t on each other, but my mates cop it more when the souk out on a good day ride all because its overcast and dark skies in the distant, bunch of old girls they have become.

Good for you Dave. You caught a few of the last reasonable riding days of 2020 in your area.

I'll take my snow anytime over your forest fires.

Last time I rode in the snow was when I moved to a new home in February. Got frost bite on my face. No thanks.

Snow was what got me started on these damn powered velocipedes! Bit too much of a struggle on a pushbike.....

Maybe our weather is just more unpredictable where we are but I can go outside in the morning and it can look great. And turn really bad in a short amount of time.

It's not the that rain will stop me from riding but it sure will affect what I wear.

This is my current go to app for keeping an eye on things. It can be the difference between getting poured on or waiting for it to pass. Sometimes that difference can be just a couple minutes.

You might be right although it was tempting yesterday. Damn work got in the way.

I have noticed at race meetings that a chill in the air often happens about 20 minutes before it rains.

Common saying in a lot of places. The difference is knowing exactly what weather is coming.

We have good weather reports that are normally spot on, this weekend the forecast is for heavy rain for a few days, I don't mind as most of my rides are during the week when not so much traffic on my fav roads, I am hoping it does piss down for the weekend as we really need it the ground is so dry and I just planted new vegies in my garden beds.
Our Aussie bush relies on fire to rejevenate and every year our councils and forestry have burn offs during our winter months to control the under groth but the last 10 years they been forced to stop that and now we have experienced wild fires that gets out of control, they have to go back to the old days of burn offs, here in my state of Queensland we didn't suffer the fires they had in other states as we still have burn offs.
Once we have major fires it don't take long for the bush to recover and now they are working with the Abouginals as they been doing burn offs for over 40,000 years and are Masters of land rejevenation , we live in a dry country and we have a lot to learn from the original owners of this great land.
I love to have a play in snow, but I couldn't live with it, not for months at a time and not able to ride when I want.

It was unusually warm and sunny so I took advantage of it for a short ride. It was about 50˚F when I set off but the sun sets early so the temps dropped fast. While I was in the sun it wasn't bad. When I got to the place I was taking pictures the wind was pretty strong, there was a wind turbine spinning mighty fast. Still worth it to get some nice shots of the sunset. The sun goes down around 4:30pm this time of year so it was getting dark by the time I got home. I also apparently haven't ridden this bike in the dark as the headlight was pointed just in front of the front tire.

Been 2 years since this thread has gone quiet, we been getting some very hot and humid days here 33c today and well in the 20s last night, a thunderstorm is predicted for this afternoon will cool things down and rain forecast for this week, nothing like what they been getting down south.

Yes, I’m from Alabama. Temps always vary quite a bit here. Last week we had 4-5 nights in the 20’s and highs in low 50sF. I got out during the day. A little brisk but worth it! It’s warmed up and raining some now. I’ve had some oil leaks to fix and haven’t been able to do it because I’m too busy riding it. I came back yesterday and had a gusher oil under and all over the bike so it’s worse. So fun’s over I’m in maintenance mode.

Well good to see you are Dave, but I been caught out replying to old threads that seem to reappear without looking at the date and then sometimes it's good to read some old threads, but also sometimes it's hard to find some old ones as well.
