David has mentioned the lights from JP are $42.00 US. I got $70.00 US off the Candlepower site [ included bulb ] which was the second site Steve mentioned. Haven't yet got a price for the freight though

Kerinorton:
the brand on the box is M.C.S.
HL7
7" H/light reflector & B/HOLDER

it has the pilot light in position.
Hope this helps, I still have to fit it so as to replace the standard bulb, with a halogen bulb, maybe I should pull my finger out.
Peter
PS will let you know!

Look up Truck Lite. I use them in both Nortons and Harley's. They work with + or - polarity @$240.

Truck Lights sure have tough shapes to match " ). I Besides the main Candlepower lamp I snagged a pair of hi end pencil beam off road lights on sale to reach way out to reveal hints of things to come. There are also LED headlamps and signals incorported in small fairings. Peel has purple high lighting LEDs for parking.

Hi Steve, I had a mad moment last night and purchased the GE69821 Night Hawk, L E D lamp unit. It is identical to the TruckLite one you have recommended. Wife should shoot me, but its come off my allowance for new mufflers, front pipes and wheels. Have been speaking to Kenny at Candle Power and he told us their light is made for driving on the RHS of the road, so no good in NZ. The demo for the trucklite showed it to have a dip beam that was ok. both beams work on high, and the high beam cuts off when on low beam only. Beam lowers down slightly on both sides. Oh well, Its only money. $251.00 landed cost in NZ. David sounds like he is going to obtain a CIbie. We will be able to compare.
all the best and thanks for the info. I/we will let you know what we find.

hehe we should all be so happy on stealing stash for such a bright mood lighter. Go out and blind some animals dead in their tracks in awe. Next yr may cost only $150.

Hi Steve, its not the four legged animals I'm worried about, its the 2 legged bastards that don't dip their lights when approaching me. We don't have deer probs here, just the very occasional black cow. They just stand in front of you looking dumb. [ very rare indeed but not something you want to come across ] regards, Dereck
ps, I havn't worn out my welcome yet but the conversation did go along the lines of "If you want to act like a 20 yr old " HERE HERE

Or horses. Ironically, just last week a horse trainer was killed on the way home when she hit a horse on her way home.

I'm using a hella headlamp with a Phillips X-treme 60/55w h4 bulb. I have wired it directly via 2 relays from the battery. Easy to do and a great light.

That's exactly what I have and I am not happy with it. Not enough penetration right out front and too much above 20 feet, the Wagner unit is the same. they are both better than anything else I have tried though.

Then do the trick that I have done, use a cheap headlight and obtain from a car breakers yard a couple of small spot lamps, mount these on a single bent bracket using the h/light holes, on top of the headlamp, ( with a relay between the two), use a switch that switches off the headlight and switches on the spotlights mounted onto a bracket bolted above the clutch lever.

The Hella on my Laverda Mirage I had was poo. It was generally thought to be a poo lamp by most who used them at the time. Doesn't sound like they have improved much.
You could fit the lowest wattage bulb you can find and just use it as a running light. The real lighting could come from some of the LEDS lamps coming out now. A spot and fog to simulate dip and main. The smaller ones have pretty small current consumption, and compared to the 7" ones like trucklite, not too expensive.

Deer and elk and black bull hides don't reflect light much and can appear more as road shadows from dips or spilled fluids till suddenly testing your front tire traction on supposedly too weak factory brake or deciding which side of them to run into the ditch away from their next surprise move. First year I tried to avoid deer but one time going 60 in mid afternoon a deer pair leaped into my lane before a crest in the road, each facing opposite sides of the road and both looking at me with cocked heads no way to slow much in time so gritted teeth for the last time I expected to have teeth braced for the butt over bar impact and aimed right at em but they shuffled apart just in time with about 2 ft to spare. That was the event that made me a crazy aggressive deer hunter. The ones that will hit you can not be avoided as they leap in the way from the sides or down on ya from over head bluffs out of the blue. Its illegal to spot light deer from car/truck at night to poach em don't ya know. I constantly freak on mail boxes before close enough to see the posts and have passed a herd of deer in daytime going 40 I had just decided was a clump of saplings till passing them and seeing them turn heads under the shade of sapling cluster. I've had logs and mail boxed suddenly turn side ways to reveal what they were at they leaped out across road or away as I passed. Foil and old can pop tops glint backs make me grab brakes needlessly routinely as if animal eyes.

sorry fellas - I checked and it's at hansa headlight with the Phillips bulb. Seems like a decent light to me. I live in the country and use it a bit. I would love a HID but not sure if I could fit it in the headlight shell

Mine has a Bosch unit from a BMW R65, I've never ridden it at night so no idea on its effectiveness. As for dipping left or right its hit and miss at the VTNZ testing place. They made me change the lens on my Darmah a few years back even after it was Vinned by them.
Is this to do with charging or light out put?
I run lights on during the day an no issues. ( its compulsory pre 1990 but I do what I can to help car drivers pay attention)

hI 72C, THE nz REGS JUST SAY THE LOW BEAM HAS TO DIP STRIGHT DOWN OR DOWN TO THE LEFT. IT MUST NOT GO DOWN TO THE RIGHT NOR MUST IF FLARE UP ON THE RIGHT LIKE SOME H4 BEAMS DO TO THE LEFT IN NZ.
I do what you do mostly in daylight, but night riding is very good up here. Bugger all traffic. I like to get out when I can during the winter and I just go for it when its dry [ not like now thought its 18degrees and fine in Temuka right now ] Dereck

Hello Keri Norton, The problem with " The Rules" is that the guys I have struck at testing stations are thick.
I had a Ducati vinned with a RHD dipping lens which it came with from Aussie, the guy at the Testing Station was adamant that Ducati was Italian and they ride on the right....despite it having a ADR plate from AU.
I swapped it out for a LHD one and he still fiddled with it and his "lightbox" I would not leave these guys in charge of a BBQ.
I did find a very bright 'park' lamp for the Ducati for daytime city riding.
How about fitting a ring of LED's inside the lens ...for that Audi look. :D
