Welcome BEEF,

There is currently an upgrade currentl under trial, and some folks have been buying a sprag from AliExpress which seem to have been better that the usual.

Cheers,

cliffa.

Not being a MkIII owner myself I'll defer to others on the availability of the 14's.

"A sprag clutch is a one-way freewheel clutch. It resembles a roller bearing but, instead of cylindrical rollers, non-revolving asymmetric figure-eight shaped sprags, or other elements allowing single direction rotation, are used."

The sprags you see that look like a bearing are because the assembly includes the inner and outer race.
The bare sprag assembly uses instead the norton components as the "griped" surfaces.
One of the issues that I perceive is the norton inner and outer gripped races are outside of the design spec for that series sprag.
Sprags are a very ordinary industrial machinery component.
I had not studied if the 14/18 choice has a difference of torque spec, but I doubt the race diameters are different.
I've seen many drive gear and engine sprocket sets. Some looked like braand new and some were VERY beat up and horribly dimpled.
There should be plenty available from industrial bearing suppliers. You may not like the price

One little tip learned the hard way.... When disassembling the Mk3 primary don't put the sprag clutch too close to the alternator rotor :-(

This may be old news, but I got a 14 tooth sprag about a week ago from Fair Spares America, Los Osos California. Works great.

I AM after a 14 sprag bearing for my mk3 its not a 18 upgrade one.

14's are available. Matt at CNW has them. I order them in quantity from Cross Morse in the UK. You might want to take a look at the CNW Mark 3 sprag upgrade, (I make these for CNW) as I do not recommend the 14 tooth sprag for OEM components in the sprag assembly of Mark 3's. Did you happen to also happen to make this inquiry on the Norton Commando Facebook page?

Hi, is it possible to share the exact number of the 14 tooth sprag which is used by Cross Morse? I could not find it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Catalogue part no. 1310145 is the 14 tooth sprag from the BW Sprag Elements download Catalogue

I replied to the 14 tooth sprag question, but wanted to add, I do not suggest using this sprag on OEM or most aftermarket systems (including Andover Parts). The original and most aftermarket do use a material or have sufficient heat treat process to handle the impact from the 14 tooth sprag. Just my opinion
