What's happening at Norton? Sale to TVS, massive investment, new bikes...

Lovin the look of this but not sure what to make of the article in Times Bull🤣! The image appears to be just an artists sketch - no real other detail. The bike referred to at the show was a V4CR.

Started a real debate on FB though - had me excited for about 30 secs! Come to think of it, I believe I’ve posted this exact rendition myself on this site some years ago🤣! Shows how keen Nortonistas are for news though!

The few stats they post in the article (185 bhp etc) relate to the V4CR they were showing at the Bharat auto show in India - used the wrong pic to achieve the desired click-bait outcome.

As Stu posts on FB, it’s an old rendition from Holographic Hammer. They do some pretty funky designs.

If the Ops Manager takes me out to dinner, and offers me £65k a year and a four day week, and buys me pudding, I'd contemplate it.
 
“ Just what is going on at Norton?”………. a headline from March 1994 in British Bike Magazine…. the whole article finishes with “ If only John Bloor would buy the trademarks”……
 
It's hard to believe that Norton are just so slow at adding to the bike range. I was as maybe most, incredibly surprised that they carried on with the 961 in the air cooled version. With the availailty of so many TVS parts/engines etc, I would have thought they would have a range of small single engine scramblers like the triumph, royal enfield etc but no, they stick with Garners models.

They could have easily launched a Norton scooter for mass markets. I am really surprised at the slow pace they work at.

These motorcycles were targeted for developing markets, markets with prominence of lower displacement bikes, and as entry-level sport bikes in developed markets. This was the first time that BMW Motorrad ventured into developing the sub-500 cc bikes.

BMW K03 was the code-name given to the first collaborative product of BMW-TVS. It was a test bike which was developed in India and sent to Germany for further testing and modifications.

At 2:47 mins in the video I see a frame brace that my bike does not have . This is where the tubes coming up from the swingarm pivot attach to the backbone tube under the tank . Have a look .

Which bike are you talking about Tony - do you have a BMW 310 (2:47)?

TVS bringing out new models is a good thing though right? The further they expand and more profitable they become the better for Norton. Let’s hope that they go from strength to strength.

You're correct, of course.
But, I think Tony is somewhat like me.
I've been waiting for new Norton models that I want, and it's not a 310 Apache, or similar fare.
I guess I'm just self-centered now, and want to see a new 750, or 900, or 1000, or some heavy metal from Norton.

On another level, have TVS gotten approval from the Apache Native America tribes to use the Apache name?
We could see a future Cultural Appropriation complaint against TVS.;)

Agreed BT, I guess we’re all more than a bit impatient for new bikes. Or at the very least some more definitive information about the forthcoming models; It’s looking like the NEC in Nov at this stage.

Lessons learnt from their past I guess, as we’ve discussed before - hopefully they’ve had all of the time they need to get it right. This next family of bikes might be the most important they ever produce.

I don’t suppose the TVS/BMW 310 out of India has anything to do with Norton, in the scheme of things. Don’t wanna’ own one, but I would’nt mind a buzz around on the road/sports variant - should be fun in the twisties!

Well spotted Tony, this additional bracing section (yellow arrow) does not appear to be present on my bike either (although not a great pic). I’m guessing this must be one of the upgrades/fixes Birmingham Norton applied to the 961. They did detail strengthening of the frame as one of the upgrades.

Never heard of a Donny 961 failing in this area though.

I am intruigued by Henschel’s comment that we are developing the TRAVEL and merchandise areas…. what did he mean ? … answers on a holiday postcard please!
 
How can Buell, which has been in business this time around, about as long as TVS owned Norton. With way less money, and yet, Buell offered all of these bikes for sale now or near public release?

A plus for me is, they’re local.
