What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Took the Commando in for it's roadworthiness examination (like a one-off MOT certificate).

It passed :)

Congratulations are in order. Today I got the bond in the mail, loaded up all my paperwork and headed to the county tax office. after one more form and a check for $499 I was out the door with my newly minted Texas license plate and the title, in my name, is in the mail. It has been a long time coming.

Was this a registration/insurance requirement? Or just: 'peace of mind' ??
Both of the above (or all three to be honest).

It needs to be re-registered in the IoM and so any vehicle over 3yo being imported has to be examined. Without approval it can't get registered and I imagine ultimately couldn't be insured for permanent use here.

The plus side is that once it passes, there are no further annual checks (MOTs)

Well, I did get out yesterday and took a nice 50 mile round trip to a nearby covered bridge in a really perfect part of Michigan. Perfect day for a ride. Cold, but the sun and skies made up for it, and this time I wore my leather, long pants, and scarf! I'm hoping to get out some more this weekend while this nice weather is here with us in Michigan.

Yesterday I decided to tidy up my gauge holders which had chipped paint , see how the polished looks and I can always paint them if required . Then i noticed the double grey outer insulation where it goes into the switchgear was out too far so i took them off and pushed it in further and refitted .cheers.

I hope going for a ride counts as something I did with my Commando. I have been on a "get acquainted mission" with my Commando over the last several weeks. I want to get a feel for how it rides and get used to the shifting again. I also wanted to see what kind of gas mileage I was getting (38mpg) to get a feel for the range. I also wanted to test my jetting. I don't have any flat spots. It doesn't pop back on the over run and the plugs are gray to light chocolate and not white. The exhaust pipes, at the head, are pretty blue but I think that was from the PO.

As for the ride, it was great. The day is gorgeous with blue skys and cool temperatures. My top speed was 65. I took my favorite back roads, meandered along and tried to enjoy myself.

"Tried" to enjoy yourself? I think I know what you mean. I'm relatively new to the Commando as well and some days out it feels a little like too much bike. Other days, it feels like I'm part of the bike and just humming along my favourite back roads here in Michigan. I've learned over the couple years riding it that the road conditions and my state of mind have a much more profound effect on my riding experience. Before I was blaming the bike thinking that something might be loose or such, but in the end it was me, and the roads I'm riding on. Well, that's not entirely true. I had to re-install the correct height rear shocks to bring the bike level. That made a huge difference in handling. I also put in 20wt in the forks instead of the 10wt I had in there before. That switchup made a marginal difference, but still positive.
