What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Hi Mike,

The stand hooks into a set of spools on the lower shock mounts. It is a pretty sturdy system. Here is another picture that may help.

Where did you source the bobbins?

Been plagued with rear break problems on a new build, enough is enough! Got my new master cylinder from Andover Norton today. Me and my big 15 replaced the old one and bled the air out of the system. Great breaks!

The bell didn't worry him but the sound of a screeching cat was horrendous, sounded like a front brake noise lol, but funny as it is, it works to keep the inside of the hub clean and polished and would have never thought about it till I seen it, Danny was very fussy about his old Shovelhead in fact everything he owned he was spotless with cleaning and detail and I mean everything, he was an old school biker but very fussy.

Rick,
Thanks for the reply and the picture. Are you comfortable putting the bike up on it by yourself?
Mike
Yes, I use it without assistance most of the time. There is no center or side stand on the bike now, so when I pulled it out of the garage to take the pic, I took the bike off of the stand, put the stand on my shoulder, moved the bike out, and placed the bike back on the stand. A bit of balancing, but workable for me.

Drove it to Mods and Rockers ride to Duke Tavern , then home . 4 other Nortons there , Peter Mckenna's new Norton build won a trophy for best . Bike ran perfect , 2 bands at the Tavern .

Whilst I wait to register my bike, I’ve been busy all afternoon with a jar of Mothers and a drill. Front rim, timing cover and gearbox cover done. Front hub is going to be a real challenge
After a recommendation on this forum I have changed to White Diamond. Sooo much better than Mothers.
Try it - you won't regret it!
1. It is less abrasive.
2. It has a protectant - so the shine lasts longer.
3. Does not "dry out" whilst polishing.

Cheers

Thank you for the tip. I was finding that with Mothers I couldn’t loose the last of the polishing marks even with a wool buffer. Matt polished the Z plates and they are amazing and when I used Mothers on a tiny spot on one of them it actually removed the ultra shine; talk about 1st world problems eh?

Having said that, polishing is a stage process so Mothers has at least cut the worst; I noticed in direct sun even after much effort the leading edges of the fork tubes had mild pitting and a good firm go with Mothers did the job, a finer polish would probably not have.

I’m not intending this to be a show bike but once you start…I’ll buy some White Diamond for the 2nd stage, oh joy 🤪

I love that stuff!

Got up early in the AM and tried to go to breakfast with some people. Could not find the restaurant. Tried to call, no answer. Gave up and had a nice ride to Alices Restaurant. Some people were showing off their hot rods. Bikes from latest sportbikes to Harleys with ape hangers. I was sitting next to an older couple with two excited 6-8 year old grandsons in tow. Cars! Motorcycles! Good breakfast, iced coffee and rode home. Norton ran well. 135 miles total

You’re not kidding about White Diamond, what a difference! And I bought the Super Shine too which is meant to be even finer. I’m likely to have at least another 2 weeks before I’m registered so I might as well keep at it but honestly I’d rather be riding now.
