What’s the best none Norton Norton ?

If it's ok to post Egli pics, have a look a this replica built by Dag Riise in Norway. Completed after 5 years of painstaking work,
Dag had an awful time getting a reg. The authorities wanted the bike put through the same testing process that a new Volvo model would receive.
This would cost millions.
The bike sat for a couple of years, then he was able to sort it somehow. The kickstart is for show, he has never managed to kickstart the bike.
I warned him about that, however he just chuckled and said he had very strong cyclist legs, it wouldn't be a problem!
He helped me a lot with advice on my project, even sent me the styro foam tank former seen being shaped in the article.

It went fast at the IOM, faster than any Vincent of any capacity has ever gone around.
Indeed, but alas not quite as fast as the top G50s and Manx Nortons.

Patrick was adamant he could get them there, actually he became kinda obsessed by it.

The Egli Vincent Godet 500:
(If only I was younger, lighter, richer and had less excuses)…

Definitely looks a racer and would probably make a really inhospitable road bike. Not designed for that of course, but we want it all!

Glen

I rode these two back to back, hadn't ridden either since COVID arrived.
The Thruxton got the morning, the silver bike the afternoon.
Isn't the cool morning air supposed to add power?
It wasn't enough.
The Silver thing is a lot faster than the Thruxton even though it packs 3 to 1 oa gearing vs 4.3 for the Thruxton.

Lighter handling than the Thruxton too. But not as pleasant to ride in many ways.
She does vibrate a bit, although you don't really notice when hanging on for dear life!
Absolutely horrible in traffic on a warm day.

Ducati monster S2R 1000 arrived in my shed last evening …. I think it will be a close ride experience to the old Norton very similar to the GT1000 it sits beside just more stripped down , not ridden yet , so far just looked plus maybe I did remove baffles from termi exhausts , fits perfect …. now must move recently arrived DR650 which was just a mistake , never going to be comfortable on that high ride even after lowering , good dually though , for someone ….

Ducati owes its existence to the Monster,
I like the air cooled motor!

Hello Craig,
My wife bought a 2006 S2R1000 in ‘08 with 4000k’s from an old fellow.
Excellent engine, lots of torque without having to red line it.
Handles very well and stops well.
Makes an average rider a very good rider.
We added the Termi full exhaust, air box and ecu from Ducati Performance.
Good motorcycle that she won’t sell,,,
Graeme

Thanks Graham , beside the S2R is ‘09 sport classic GT1000 same engine , a truly great engine (easy to work on) and as you say great performance in a light weight package , early this Spring I sold my cross Canada ride bike a ‘07 Ducati ST3s which so far has been best bike ever for me , same 992 engine only with 3V heads with liquid cooling , somewhat heavier and I always dreaded stripping the fairings & installing them for belts and valves, however a great riding bike …. this Ducati 992 engine has become my favourite engine over all , just a bit more likeable than the Norton 759 Combat I sold last fall after many years of great service …. I am old guy myself now and these lightweight well engineered Dukes fit me and my abilities perfectly, plus I like the sound , Marving on GT , Termi on S2R , both have performance kits installed and db killers are hanging on shed wall …. have yet to see red line on Ducati tach , and you are correct in saying no need to wind them up too awful much ….

My ST3 Abs blew up. Never had that with any other motorcycle.

Sorry to hear that MAK , I put 70K trouble free kms on mine and then sold it to Club member who loves it still ….What exactly happened to yours ,no service , lame service or just bad luck …..
