Well - the Kisan Signalminder SM-1 is still great - although I have now set the cancel to 20 (seconds/flashes), paused by the brake light - 10 seconds I found to be too short.
The Motogadget M-stop story was not so good for the brake light. It would rapidly flash the brake light only once, after the ignition was switched on - after that, only solid "on". Contacted Motogadget but unfortunately they were unable to help. I tried putting the supplied resistor in parallel to the LED tail-light but that, also, didn't work.
so... I bought the Kisan Tailblazer 100HD.
Arrived today, very small. Took 10 minutes to install (fits under the tail-light fairing).
It's great - rapid and reducing frequency flashing of brake light for first 1 or 2 seconds before solid "on".
Just what I wanted. Might not improve visibility if everyone has one - but, as I'm in the minority, I think it will work nicely.
Based on my experimenting so far - I would recommend the Kisan Signalminder SM-1 and the Kisan Tailblazer 100HD for Norton riders.
Gives you:
1. self cancelling indicators (in case you forget - we all do!)
2. indicators as half strength running lights (optional)
3. flashing (initially) brake light
Cheers
