What is the shape of the end of the 5/8 rod where it contacts the crank?
It has a top-hat shaped projection that locates in the center hole in the end of the crank.

Works good, taken off dozens of sprockets with no issues, doesn't wander out or hurt the end of the crank.

After gathering up all of the parts, mostly from Andover Norton, I am making progress. I was delayed when I decided to replace the sleeve and 4th gear layshaft gear set after receiving my initial order, I placed the 2nd order just before Christmas and didn't receive them until the 1st week of January.

Anyway, the case has been bead blasted and painted. The bearings are all pressed in as is the sleeve gear. A .030" and .010" rear isolastic shim under the kick-starter shaft brought end play on the layshaft down to .005".

Runout for the sleeve gear and main shaft were both .000.
