I bet the spring’s wrong as well![]()
But it fouls the lh silencer.
That could be because it requires the spring to assist partly, and perhaps my soft rubber floor is too compliant. I will have another look dreckly.
How much did the t140 stand contact the left silencer ?I removed the original stand yesterday and attempted to fit the T140 one. The bolts fit fine as the ends of the stand are threaded like the T160. But it fouls the lh silencer. Despite that minor setback I lifted it so easily onto the stand but it then simply rolls forwards again. That could be because it requires the spring to assist partly, and perhaps my soft rubber floor is too compliant. I will have another look dreckly.
Also, my original stand has been welded up in a couple of places and it is also badly twisted and not square where it bolts to the frame. It was extremely tight to move as a result of the misalignment. I’ve dropped it off to my metal working mate to rebuild it using the new T140 stand as a pattern, he’s also going to take 1/2” from the base and I will try that before cutting the new stand.
If you were asking me.I have a old 1976 GL1000 and it is heavy, but the bit you stand on helps with the "levering onto the stand" can you alter the bit you stand on for a little bit more help ? .
Many owners cross brace the stands as well, to prevent them bending again. The Police used to do do this as a matter of course on some of their bikes. If you were asking me.
I have deduced the greatest part of my problem was actually the very damaged stand that was on the bike originally, this was not swivelling unless a great deal of effort was put in.
Once a new one was fitted, after rewelding the lever in the correct place to clear the silencer, then everything was sorted, for me at least. I fully understand why someone who isn’t my size 6’1” and 14 stone (195lb) will find it awkward to lift even having the LPW lifting handle fitted.
The T140 stand I tried first of all had the lever in the wrong place, but otherwise worked nice and smooth. Rather than reweld the lever in a suitable place, and then additionally fit a T150 stop, I decided to fit a new T160 one, only to find the lever was identical to the T140. The lever on my damaged stand was correct and so we used that as a pattern, we could have used heat and bent it slightly but decided to cut and reweld.
sorry. don't own a digital camera or i phonePix of the brace?
Pix of the brace?
I thought I’d finished working on the Trident and got it off the ramp, and what a struggle that was, it only wanted to slide across the surface. Finally I managed it and wheeled it outside so I could start it up and actually listen to it running properly.
Fine, I got the Commando out, View attachment 85953View attachment 85954and that as usual started first prod of the starter button and quickly settled down to a nice idle.
So, to the Trident, fuel on, tickled, ignition on, thumbed the button and it refuses to fire up. Oh buggerit I need to check what I’ve done to the ignition system as it was working the last time I checked.
But now to the real problem. I can not get it up into the centrestand. It’s a heavy bike granted, but I’ve had heavier, and none so awkward. Yes, I do have a lifting handle fitted - but it is beyond me to lift it. Perhaps as a consequence of my recent heart attack I’m losing strength - but the Commando pops up like a dream.
Is there a knack, or am I just too knackered?
