My comment wasn't aimed at you, in fact it wasn't aimed at all, just general venting of the " you can lead the horse to water" varietyMy comment was about the application, or not, of gasket goo to head gaskets…

Baz, I just talked with Cometic, will pm you the part number for the BSA rocker gasket.
Still working on the Norton items to sort out what shapes they already have and what is still needed.

Well if $17.38 is expensive OK? And that was for 1The Cometic rep in Australia told me the head gasket with the H prefix means someone paid good dollars to have these head gaskets made so would need to contact US Cometic to see if there available to the public or only through the guy who paid for that custom gasket ? Postage and making could be 10 to 12 weeks covid shipping downunder. The jsmotorsport copper is looking like a better option at this stage.
Maybe they just saying that to milk us for more $$$.Shipping has just gone crazy.
I guess we blame the Pandemic.

A head gasket could almost fit in a Christmas card to save from getting fleeced on postage costChuck I just gave them a call $18.90 for the .040 head gasket but its US $220 ( $310 AU ) Courier shipping with 4 week processing time. I'm looking into other option with shipping to Australia.
Thank you
Brian
The Yamabond #4 (Threebond) sealer is designed to stay in place, even the small amount squeezed out, stays adhered to the part line. I've used it for decades, never seen it create "snot strings" like RTV does. I've disassembled dozens of engines sealed with this stuff. Certainly ANYTHING can be used wrong.Just to add some info, a friend decided to tear his new-to-him Vincent engine down as it seemed to have many issues, lack of power, oil burning, oil leaking.
It was supposedly built by someone with a good reputation, however many disasters in the waiting were found.
The engine crankcases and timing case had been sealed with grey Yamabond silicone sealer.
He found great long free strings of grey Yamabond inside the cases. This was from sealant squeeze out that had come loose over time.
Yamaha must have a method of applying exactly the correct amount so that squeeze out does not occur.
For the rest of us, a bit of squeeze out does happen, or you are unsure that adequate sealer has been used.
He was lucky in that none of the floating silicone appears to have plugged any oil passages, which is rather amazing given the amount of crap in there.
The anaerobic type 518 will be used on re assembly.
