Drop of oil in a plastic ' Zip ' bags not a bad idea for all the nuts & bolts .

Im SURE I put that %#* right THERE . :( :lol:

Inspection of front rame with a sraight edge & strong light should have you maintaining the status quo there , I suspect some thought they were desert racers , after the P11 .
Should hang together fine if youre not motocrossing or setting the land speed record .

It was partially disasssembled when I bought it so I'm not even sure that I have all the nuts and bolts. Still contemplating welding in a brace tube on the frame similar to the newer ones.
 
Ditto with swooshdave and Torontonian. If your going to use that frame, have the strengthening tube welded in. It's simply too dangerous to ride without it. I had a frame like that with one of my Nortons years ago. And, according to the the frame number (stamped into the metal of the frame, no plate rivited on) ... it was the 200th Commando made. First thing I did with that bike, was have that strengthening tube welded in !!!

I like to use used clear food containers that pop closed to seal and still see whats inside w/o opening, but still good id to label some of them to ID what inside.
Don't depend on magic marker on bags as very little oily handling removes that to a smudge, ugh. Label on tape or drop a note inside. Don't trust wimpy solvent wd/40 to protect more than over night if that, ugh. Grease and wrap or find out what happens with lessor ways over a season to so.

I had the same thought. For a 1969 the frame should already be different. It would be interesting to see whether the primary chain case is of the 1968 "conical" type.

Thems ROUND indentations for them badges in the tank . Super charger & NoS . ( Ha thatll upset em , No a Z1'll fit there . NO . NOT ) Has th REAL rear guard I see . Same as the PR .
I think the test of the Original P.R. ' conversion ' , drum brake still . is up in the Tech stuff or Links . Runs the real very Norton ' Silencers ' sound very mutted but clear , from the top
of the hill a mile from the Valley . Actually just a good grumble ( sound ) .throttled up climbing through the turns . Bloke bought a brand new silver one , plenty of Nortons round . Not
that a ten year old kid made a lot of sense of it all . Friday evening he would head off for the far Off places . Swiftly and With Style . :wink: Probly a mile and a half till he was round
and on the ridge , where the knob shielded the sound path , on a clear day . :lol:

It probably is a '68 but it was sold and registered as a '69. At some point in its life it has had a '72 disc brake front end and a '71 motor installed. The sereial number would indicate that it is about the 820th production Commando.

The motor and primary chain case have been replaced at some point with a '71 unit. I wish it still had the old chain case.

Funny, exactly like the 1968 bitsa I bought years ago. That thing was FUBAR so it served as a donor for a 1970 I bought together with it. BTW, it had the brace tube installed. Together with the head steady mount and the original gusset it actually looks a little bit more beefy than the 1970 frame.
