I clocked up just under 90 miles yesterday, which is the longest ride in one stint that I've had on the Commando thus far.

I notice that I can feel it in my back a little today (I'm a sniff under 6ft 1") and so I'm tempted to try some slightly higher bars than the Europeans that I currently have. I think even an inch more rise might hit the sweet spot (I found this by fitting some bar risers on my BMW R1200RS), so I'm not thinking hi-riders ;)

I think the semi western may be a little too much. What about the Interpols?

Any suggestions?

I have Euro Interstate on mine. Rise is ok but wish they were a bit more narrow. That is a problem because they foul the tank if narrower. Maybe you can go higher to get narrower. So it is a case of betwixt and between you compromise either way.

Personally, at just over 6 foot, I find that the western bars suit the (too far forward) stock footrests fairly well IF you’re looking for a nice cruising ride.

But for fast riding, this set up turns you into a parachute …

In fast interstate/motorway segments I alternate to feet on the passenger pegs, bend my elbows a bit more and it reduces the "sail". (US bars)
A compromise, everything.

When I had rear foot pegs that was the go for me too...and bent elbows at pace was better also with the stock footrests....that way ya don't need to brake much ya just lift ya head up and you got air brakes..:)

I'm 6'1 and have gone to AN semi western bars - I was looking to replace the bent originals (as fitted to US models) and these are ever so slightly lower I may go even higher with Triumph bars but these are not bad, done a couple of 100 mile rides in relative comfort.

Handlebars are such a personal thing.
I prefer the Daytona 'Touring' bar.
Maintains the lower rise with a little more sweep.
Bringing them closer without going full parachute.

I used to choose K&N "Superbike" bend, back when we had some good choices

They look promising 👍

Sometimes adding a bit of height can take the edge off...or prevent tank clash with your favorite bars

Shane, those risers look class mate. I'd ask who makes them but I know you're gonna say you 'knocked them up in half an hour' yourself ;)

Hello
No experience of Interpols but RGM Norton have quite a range. https://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/dept/handlebars_d01132.htm
I have the the 'Type D' fitted to my '72 Roadster. These are listed as 4.5" high, so lower than 'USA type' but higher than 'European'.
Work fine for me.
Andy

Cheers Andy, some good options, just tricky to visualize from those pics 👍

I honestly wasn't aware there was a different bar for the Interstate. Every day's a school day.

I switched from the Euro to Western bars recently. The westerns are more relaxed and upright, but close enough to the euro dimensions that it may be difficult to find something in between. There's a good amount of information on this page that should help you;

Click on the part number and it will bring up a photo with dimensions.

I used to do 500 mile Sundays with this set up. Rear sets and BMW R90S bars. It’s the age more than the position. I prefer stock pegs and western bars now, but 250 miles or less.
