Running Problem - UPDATE & HELP possible new problem...

Hi Bob
Do you know which wiring change?
I thought I could find the answer in one of the forums, but I didn't succeed.

Ok Raphael so there you have it, sounds like they pigtail a capacitor across the dc power supply to filter the ac noise.

That's exactly what they do, just had mine done at the factory, no more flashing lights now

Well, Simon, I've called and called Norton UK... no joy.
I've sent an email (two days ago)... no response.
With the current experience I've had, and with what I've heard generally, it seems Norton UK need to organise some customer satisfaction/interface courses.
I've no choice but to keep trying anyway.

Hi Dan,

Sorry to hear you're struggling to get a response, please can you confirm which email address and phone number you have been trying ?

Any warranty issues can be submitted to warranty@nortonmotorcycles.com. If you want to drop me a PM with your contact details I can have our man in warranty get in touch with you today.

Kind Regards

Much appreciated, Simon.
The contact details I've been trying are:

Sales & Service enquiries
+44 (01332) 812119

...a separate email to "info@nortonmotorcycles.com", and the online contact form.

I've tried ringing again this morning, numerous times, with no answer whatsoever.

I'll send you a PM with my details now.

Thanks again.

Anyone phoning from outside the UK the number will be: +44 1332 812119
(As you'd quoted "+44" I thought you were calling from outside the UK although I think you are in Scotland?)

Oopos, yes, sorry about that.

I am in Scotland.

I copied and pasted the number from the Norton site.
I should have realised.

I had been ringing "01332 812119"

FAO Simon Marshall of Norton UK...

Just a note to thank you again, Simon. Steve Green contacted me this afternoon and has organised to send me the part you recommended that will sort the intermittently flashing 'warning' lights problem. He was a pleasure to chat with and extremely helpful... a boon to the company!

He also kindly offered - considering the communications problems I've been having with Norton UK - to 'gift' me the part free of charge... so that's thumbs-up for Norton UK. Hopefully, a mechanical numpty like me will be able to fit the part easily enough... we'll see

Thanks again for your help and interest.

Cheers

Dan

Dan, do you have a local shop that works on all makes or a mechanic friend? Removing the tank is best done with 3 hands. one of Richards manuals will help!

Also, while you are there consider a battery charger plug connected to your battery if you don't already have one.

Thanks for that BPHORSEGUY.

I assume from what you say that I'm gonna have to remove my tank. Richard in Canada has previously given me advice on this and has urged me to give it a try, so I will do.

Also, I do have a few contacts of people that may be willing to help me.

Yes, I already have an optimiser/charger constantly in maintenance mode.

Thanks.

D

Dan, Simon states in the 4th post of page 2 of this thread that the patch goes under the tank! We are trying to help you get this fixed!

Yes, I know. That's why I was surprised when you talked about removing the tank. I thought somehow I misunderstood what Simon said.

I'll keep my mouth shut until the job is done and *then* report back to say that it's done and it seems maybe I'm not so stupid after all.

Cheers

Yes definitely get back to us on this as there are several members on here who have the same problem and are facing the same surgery. They want to know if they should bring it in or try it themselves. My bike is newer and not effected so i never had to do it!

I think you ALL should take your tank off just to say you did it and get your feet wet. It truly is not hard with a friend. I do it on my own a lot as we have been testing wires and coils for some time now. If you do it twice with a friend you will be able to do it on your own the third time I PROMISE...

It will feel good. Besides, the BATTERY CRADLE is slowly rusting as we speak, get the tank off and spray anti-corrosion oil on it sooner than later. Take your airbox filter out and clean that too while you have the seat off.

I promise it seems like a big deal, but do it once and you will thank yourself you did.

right now I am in Florida and without my PC so I don't want to get long-winded on my cell phone. I also have a flickering fuel light no m..atter what the fuel level . I'm not going to search for the thread right now but somebody posted that the wire is picking interference from other electronics close by and the simple fix is to move it to the other side of something or another to isolate it. my bike is a 2013. It is going back to the dealer for another minor issue and that symptom will be addressed. honestly the flickering is so quick that I hardly notice it anymore and it does not really bother me however I would like everything to be correct. I am very happy to hear your motorcycle is running fine. you are at least getting tons of enjoyment from it.

Hi Britfan60...

Simon (of Norton UK) told me:

The flashing warning light is due to random variances in the way the looms are manufactured meaning that on some bikes the HT leads and other (electrically) noisy items can induce voltage into other wires causing the warning LED's in the clocks to flash. There is a simple patch lead that can be fitted under the tank to cure the flashing warning light (P/N 6500088). Please contact our UK Sales team to help get you sorted.

I'm now awaiting the patch lead (should be arriving shortly). I'll post and let you know how I get on with it.

Cheers

Dan

Thank you for that,Dan. I look forward to hearing about your results and sharing the info with my New York dealer. Can't wait to get in front of a full sized PC.

Hi Dan
Did you receive the patch lead yet?
I am still waiting for a response from Norton UK...
I am curious to get to know if it works. What I heard so far is that this patch only helps to stop the flickering of fuel light but not neutral indication light.

Hi Raphi,
Yes, I received the patch lead. Unfortunately, though, there were no instructions/diagrams of where exactly it has to go!
I've asked Simon if he or Stephen if either are able to email me instructions, so I'm waiting to hear.
I'll let you know. However, it's a difficult time of year due to me having put my bikes into hibernation for the winter. If, however, a nice day arrives, I'll take her out for a spin to see what happens.
Will let you know.
Cheers

I got the patch lead from my dealer here in Switzerland who had received some of them a while ago. I still did not hear anything from Norton UK...
The patch lead only solves the flickering of fuel warning light, neutral indication light keeps on flickering as before the fix.

Does Norton have a solution for that as well?
