Hi,

18 months ago I purchased a '72 yellow Combat Roadster which had previous been reimported from the US in 1993. The bike is fitted with an SS seat (not a 750S) with the pointed front which puzzles me as SS's are not that common so a retro-fix seems unlikely. Subsequent to my purchase I have seen the same type of seat on other re-imported '72 Roadsters from the US.

My question is, was that a US only specification? The seat is not a particularly good fit as the pointed front exposes the front of the side panel.

Just curious,

Graham

If you're interested in a trade, I have a '71 Roadster seat in excellent condition.

Hi Danno,

Thanks for the offer but I am in UK and carriage would be too expensive.

By the way, I really like your 850SS and am thinking of fitting SS pipes to my bike just to be different. Were the 750S heat shields an easy fit or did you need 750S silencers?

Cheers,

Graham

Thanks for the compliment.

I made my own heat shield mounts with stainless wellnuts, stainless hose clamps and stainless button-head allen bolts with finish/trim washers. If you can dig up my thread "Another Winter Resurrection" it's all in there. Also, I made the isolastic mount setup for the mufflers from an old dirtbike skidplate and some 1/8" plate steel. It's all in here:

Hi Graham,

No the SS seat was not common on the roadsters here in the US. Not that many SS models were sold as they tended to sit in the dealer's floor for many months, not popular. I recall Bill's Cycles in San Bernadino, Ca had a new '71 SS on the floor in early 1973. As such you should be able to trade for a normal roadster seat. The correct one for '71 and '72 has the pleats.
