Having just read the AN newsletter which advertises seat replacements for 750 and 850's made me question the ribbed pattern on my 73 850 Roadster, not the basket weave as depicted by AN.
I have to admit I prefer the ribbed pattern but is this correct that only basket weave were fitted to the 850 Roadsters? There is also no hand grip and I have not checked if fastening holes are present.

That's the type shown in the '73 brochure and the basketweave 063676 is the seat listed in the parts book for the Mk1 Roadster. The squared 065234 is Mk2 but could perhaps have been introduced on the late Mk1.

There is also no hand grip and I have not checked if fastening holes are present.

Edit: Do you mean the seat strap as the Mk2 Roadster seat doesn't seem to have had it.

My 73 850 Roadster had the basket weave cover and a hand hold when I purchased it from the original owner. Some time ago I replaced the seat cover, foam and handhold with new ones from Old Britts and was able to get the same basket weave. They couldn't provide the handhold (yes there were mounting holes in the pan) so I went to Goodwill and bought a black leather belt. It worked and looks good.

Thank you for your replies!
Just to note my 73 850 Roadster has the ribbed pattern just like the 750 which I have to be honest about is the more preferred by myself. The basket weave pattern is not to my taste but the question of originality has been solved. I do however contemplate buying a new seat foam from JK Leighton as after two hours of riding my backside becomes down right painful.

Originality aside, basket weave is more comfortable in hot weather.
