BTW the bike seems to have original rims with nice chrome that says Made In England , original rims is important to me but if not at least there made in England .

L.A.B. Thank You for posting my pics!

Appreciate any replies , did I pay too much 8,000 with a new tank and a fair amount of parts, the bike runs and rides as it should .
In 2016 you were told cost of entry would be ~$7500. You got a good running example in the color you wanted, with spares and tools for about that 5 years later.

Commandos run 15-20k NZD here (10-15k USD).

You seem happy with the bike. Stop thinking about the money.

Not at all thinking about the money :) its all about the bike the bike that I am totally new to I've never owned a Norton so just trying to get the opinions of the experienced Commando owners .

I'll create a build thread soon I want low bars and eventually rear sets and Akron rims , the current tires are going in the bin for some modern style tires better suited foe hugging the tight curves .

In the first season, my advice would be to only replace safety items and ride. Get used to it and use the time and money to make it reliable. Just my opinion.

Well I can’t participate with pics but maybe I can just tell you what I bought.

8,000 dollars U.S. I bought a nice black 69 commando miles unknown, numbers matching with registration in short it’s a really nice bike . The commando came with a fair amount of new (still in the wrapper) parts such as a whitworth BS wrench set, spare cables, air filter, ring compressor, rear wheel hub cap, locking rings for exhaust, exhaust wrench, new in box chain, peg rubbers, rear shocks DOT aka Devoid Of Trouble , Haynes work shop manual, Norton Villiers Spare List manual, a euro license plate bracket from Andover, and an assortment of other small parts. So that all said tell me what you think I paid 8,000 and I am happy I’ve wanted this bike for a really long time and now I’m home , but did I pay too much?
Bike looks fab & u got a good deal but way better is the story behind it. You're prob good about this part mentioned

but best to be sure about a no 'widowmaker' issue

Here's what u don't wanna see

If you don't know the status of the gearbox layshaft bearing

If the rear brake pedal cable snaps

ntst8:

"I recently fitted one of Norvils rear brake lever return springs - the optional extra that goes on the foot brake lever so that if the cable breaks the lever does not turn into a vaulting pole. Nothing better than spending money solving a problem i have never had."

Appreciate the good words and the links I'll use them as I learn more about the Commando . Is the frame breakage a wheelie popping thing? I won't be doing any wheelies that's for sure.

Is the frame breakage a wheelie popping thing?

No, it was the design of the very early Commando frames being insufficiently braced.

"Possibility that the large diameter top tube of the main frame, may fracture in service due to unusual conditions of use following an induced weakness initiated by unsatisfactory crating and warehousing procedures. (corrective action, on machines affected, within the series of engine numbers 126125 to 128634, the frame should be changed in accordance with the instructions given in the 750cc model workshop manual (part no. 063419)"

...completely cured by the addition of a 1 inch O/D bracing tube below the main spine tube that your frame should have.
