In 2016 you were told cost of entry would be ~$7500. You got a good running example in the color you wanted, with spares and tools for about that 5 years later.L.A.B. Thank You for posting my pics!
Appreciate any replies , did I pay too much 8,000 with a new tank and a fair amount of parts, the bike runs and rides as it should .
Not at all thinking about the moneyIn 2016 you were told cost of entry would be ~$7500. You got a good running example in the color you wanted, with spares and tools for about that 5 years later.
Commandos run 15-20k NZD here (10-15k USD).
You seem happy with the bike. Stop thinking about the money.
In the first season, my advice would be to only replace safety items and ride. Get used to it and use the time and money to make it reliable. Just my opinion. Not at all thinking about the moneyits all about the bike the bike that I am totally new to I've never owned a Norton so just trying to get the opinions of the experienced Commando owners .
I'll create a build thread soon I want low bars and eventually rear sets and Akron rims , the current tires are going in the bin for some modern style tires better suited foe hugging the tight curves .
My 1972 has old and rusty Dunlop rims fitted I'm sure there the original rims on my bike.Anyone?
Bike looks fab & u got a good deal but way better is the story behind it. You're prob good about this part mentionedWell I can’t participate with pics but maybe I can just tell you what I bought.
8,000 dollars U.S. I bought a nice black 69 commando miles unknown, numbers matching with registration in short it’s a really nice bike . The commando came with a fair amount of new (still in the wrapper) parts such as a whitworth BS wrench set, spare cables, air filter, ring compressor, rear wheel hub cap, locking rings for exhaust, exhaust wrench, new in box chain, peg rubbers, rear shocks DOT aka Devoid Of Trouble , Haynes work shop manual, Norton Villiers Spare List manual, a euro license plate bracket from Andover, and an assortment of other small parts. So that all said tell me what you think I paid 8,000 and I am happy I’ve wanted this bike for a really long time and now I’m home , but did I pay too much?
but best to be sure about a no 'widowmaker' issue
Still cool wish they were thanks, I didn't know that.Re: post 81, Akront rims are not made in England.
Appreciate the good words and the links I'll use them as I learn more about the Commando . Is the frame breakage a wheelie popping thing? I won't be doing any wheelies that's for sure.Bike looks fab & u got a good deal but way better is the story behind it. You're prob good about this part mentioned
Norton Prospect (2016)
Thanks for the photos of the Rickmans, Matt. I felt the urge again. What would not be too bad, would be a BSA A10 Gold Flash frame fitted with a commando motor and Triumph 5 speed box. When fitted with unit Triumph fork yokes, A10 frames handle extremely well. And it would be a very easy...www.accessnorton.com

If you don't know the status of the gearbox layshaft bearing
Gearbox layshaft bearing replacement
So the gear box broke. Usual symptoms starting with Kickstarter tapping back of the leg, then noise etc. Initial thought layshaft bearing. Further Initial thoughts are to do it with gearbox in the frame, if however I need to take the main shaft out is that going to create a problem in being...www.accessnorton.com
If the rear brake pedal cable snaps
Brake Lever Return Spring
I recently fitted one of Norvils rear brake lever return springs - the optional extra that goes on the foot brake lever so that if the cable breaks the lever does not turn into a vaulting pole. Nothing better than spending money solving a problem i have never had. Anyway it seems that i need to...www.accessnorton.com

Norton Commando Rear Brake Pedal Safety Spring (Pre-MK3)
If you have ever ridden a Norton Commando and the rear brake cable broke its a scary scenario! This safety spring is designed to hold your rear brake pedal in the event of a broken cable. The spring design looks "stock" and is very discrete... I recommend this safety spring it to all my Norton...www.classicbritishspares.com
