I have just received this,
‘For the month of July we are offering both a £961 deposit contribution and a £125 voucher to be redeemed against either servicing or accessories. If that wasn’t enough, we’re also offering a £750 part exchange contribution when you trade in too.

There’s no picking and choosing – you can benefit from all three making a potential £1836 saving. If that’s not something to celebrate, we don’t know what is.’

Bit dull if you have just paid the full list price…..?!

Old news ;)

Tesla effect.

You do make a valid point, residuals are part a a Brands value. If you pay top $ for a premier product you do not expect it to be discounted on a regular basis as then your own resale value is low. Once the discounting becomes regular then the premier bit of the Brand is dead. You buy a Merc or BMW partly because even though they are expensive the resale values hold up so the annual drop in value is low, hence the low leasing costs.

I agree entirely - if I had just paid £17k for a new Commando to find the expected residual value has been reduced by a further £750+ I’d be unimpressed. Perhaps it would have been better to offer the first batch of bikes at a very competitive price to get them out on the road. With a good product this would have helped to stimulate further interest. However by offering the bikes at £17k many would-be buyers have perhaps been discouraged….

I bought myself a new watch January last year....the same watches list price is nearly £1k more now. Thats premium.
Tesco's on the other hand are doing a good discount at present on the stuff that's been sat on shelf a while.....bit miffed myself as the steak I bought the day before was cheaper today 🤔

So, they’ll give me £750 over my trade in valve? How much is a Donington Commando SF worth?

Indeed. That bit of the offer ain’t worth anything IMO.

Offer you £1000 less then give you £750 more ?!

Used values of 961s are so unpredictable, there’s no reliable ‘book value’ to refer to.
Exactly
Low ball your trade in valve. Then they’ll give you £750 over their own evaluation to make you feel like you’re getting something good.

No thanks.

Good point. Steaks if stored correctly can improve with age 😁

Personally I don’t think they have their pricing right for a 13 year old machine which supposedly had over 300 changes ( I doubt that ) and I agree why discount with a so called premium brand it tells me they haven’t had the desired up take on new machines. Knowing the problems with the early 961 people will still back off because the price of parts and labour are through the roof . Wouldn’t it be better to have a lower price and get people interested and build from there. They offered £7250 for my 2016 sport which with all the mods is as good as their new one.

As Voodooo says, I had one of those Stephen, you really should pay more attention as I was offering it at a bargain price!

Mine was the white faced version, which I much preferred personally. But as there was no interest I looked into part exchanging it against another watch, and to my surprise, they offered me much more than I was asking privately !

Anyway, the Bremont Norton is a very nice watch, it’s a proper premium watch, not some tarted up Chynese shite, so they certainly ain’t cheap, but they’re good, and bit different, and it’s a Norton Edition… !

In fairness to Norton, they ain’t a used bike dealer, all they’re gonna do is move the part ex machines on as quickly as possible, either to the trade or at auction.

And looking at used prices on eBay etc (if you follow the rare occasion where they’re actually listed as an auction, the prices they get bid to is not high) then they have little choice but to offer low figures themselves.

Regarding their sales pricing, I feel they can’t win. If they sold them cheaper, then the residuals of all your bikes would be even worse, and you'd all be seriously unhappy about that !!

When Garner Norton first showed the bikes at the NEC, late 2009, the price of a cafe racer version was £15000.... but if you ordered one at the show ( i did ) the show price was £13500. I thought that was a great offer. Back to the present and even though i don't want to sell it , i 'enquired' about part exchanging my 2023 23 plate Kawasaki Z900RS ( SE version ) , 2 months old, only 70 miles, as new. Price new was £13350 on the road ( standard bike )... i knew i wouldn't get a good deal, but £8500 plus the extra £750 making £9250 was a joke. Even the salesman said so. So if anyone out there is thinking of PX ing.... be ready for a poor price.

You must have really liked the test ride Al !

Hope you do get one. It would be good to have 1 member on here with a new Birmingham Norton !
