Say WHAT! They sent us both the wrong item, now they want you to pay for the correct one. They didn't want the wrong one back, so I don't get it.I got the same only they want me to pay for the rubber…
To be fair the letter quoted a price and number for the new rubber - I assumed that it meant buying , not replacing. I will question it first as I am ordering some other items as well .Say WHAT! Norvil agreed there should be no charge .keep us all posted, I would be interested in their reply.
Good to know.Norvil agreed there should be no charge .
This is fun , right ?Went to mount the tank using the new strap and rubber, The original parts had been chromed at some point and when I tried to put the long bolt into the trunnion it wouldn't start. My guess is that when the bolt was chromed the threads weren't masked off or dipped into plastic to protect the threads. RGM makes one a bit longer so that will help too. Two steps forward one step back. I will get a new trunnion at the same time.
And I still have my clothes on.This is fun , right ?
Here is what the head end of my strap looks like after closing down the loops -Richard,
As you fixed your strap and I went with Norvil's fix I think yours might be ok.
I still have the original strap and hardware, I will use the replacement pad sent by Norvil. Trying to get it all together for Fredericksburg next month. Wanted to "tart it up" with the new strap. Love to know what you come up with. Here is what the head end of my strap looks like after closing down the loops -

My tank is at the welder shop currently - when I get it back I will set all up including seat pan and tank bolt and take some pics - I will also measure tank bolt length and include that . You have more experience than I with these Featherbed chassis but I think that Norvil’s “fix “ of a larger trunnion shortens the strap . As I am sure you know and I am just discovering , the fore and aft position of the tank is critical - too far forward and the headlamp bracket tinware contacts the tank before the forks hit the steering stops - too far back and the seat doesn’t fit . It also appears that the bolt length ( too high ) is interfering with your seat fit .If you can pause on your efforts till I get tank back you can decide if you want to bail on larger trunnion and simply close down your loops as I did .
Very easy to do - simply put clevis pin in place in strap and squeeze in vise . This will give you a little more length to the strap . I think I may have the tank back this week- hope this helps.
Cheers- Richard
