From the NOC website....

....a chromed 'crash bar' around a smaller styled headlamp...

The S Type had the standard 7" Lucas SS700P headlamp.

The 'SS' (and Hi-Rider) had the smaller MCH66 headlamp (no 'halo').

Thanks L.A.B.,

I may have an additional SS700P in the parts stash.

Hi Brian,
The S type yokes must be both grey (your bottom yoke is black like 69 Fastback and R).
Look at the top yoke, it must have under the two threads to fit the head lamp ring stays.
The bottom yoke (grey) must have the long studs to fit the lower side of the head lamp ring (Andover supplies).
The chain guard and exhaust lockrings are later not of the Stype.
The barrells must be grey.
The rear shock absorvers must have the upper chrome cover.
The other fans just told you about oil tank, battery tray, exhaust system, center and side stand, head lamp mounts, instrument cases, etc.
Hope this help.

pierodn,

Thank you for the details on the S models. I checked the top yoke and it indeed has two threaded recesses under it. Will check the bottom yoke tomorrow to look for the studs that you speak of.

I appreciate the help,

There are several versions of "SS700P" headlamp (there are variations of shell, reflector and bulb type). An 'S' Type SS700P would have an ammeter, lighting switch and single (high beam) warning light. The shell you have seems to be the correct part.

Nobody has mentioned it so far, but the (red) steel fuel tank although similar in shape, is from a later Roadster. The 'S' tank would have been fibreglass (and the filler cap would've hinged in the opposite direction) however, as you may know, the ethanol in modern pump fuel will eventually eat through the fibreglass, so a steel tank is preferable and you would be unlikely to encounter any disapproval for using a steel tank from a later model.

Here is a pic of the 1969-1970 oil tank/battery tray/aircleaner combo.
In the background left you can see the headlight with "halo"
Mine is a 1970 Roadster converted to an "S" Type exhaust system.

Yes,
Les is right.
Remember that the high beam red warning light must be jewell type, not top flat.

Hi Brian,
Look at the Rivera's cases.
The later 1970 Roadster had the blanking plate on timing side, not the 1969/70 S.

Hi Brian,
in the pictures you can see the differences between Fireflake 1970 Royal Blu and the more clear 1969 Shappire Blu.

I've got an extra central oil tank if someone wants to buy it. Includes the banjo bolts and spacer on the tongue. Note there are 2 type S tanks, one has the breather spigot off the top of the tank like rivera's pics and the other has the spigot off the 'top hat' thing that sticks above the tank.

It's easy to tell if you have the correct trees, the bottom one has pinch bolts that go through front to rear and include the 1/4" mount for the halo. Plus the top one has holes on the underside for the studs and nuts also for the halo. But I changed nearly all my studs and nuts to bolts.

The hardest thing to find is the lever set. They are just about unobtanium. I had to repair mine by buying pieces here and there. I think they're actually Amal parts, you may find some good lookalikes.

Hi Dave,
Your S is so beautifull.
Brian,
Look at the pictures.
There are some S stock parts, like the correct Smiths, capacotor/rectifer mount, under tank reflectors, rear mudguard bracket, coils mount, etc.

L.A.B.,

Thank for the additional information. I may opt for one of the new Emgo steel tanks. The red one is in pretty rough shape. Looks like it has body filler all over it. I will need to determine if it is worth saving.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for the information and photos. Your bike is looking great!!

pierodn and DogT,

Thank you both for the additional pictures and information. I stopped responding with the "quote" feature as the thread gets really long with the pictures attached numerous times.

Dog T,

I have been viewing your awesome photo bucket picture group for your "S" and it is has been an amazing help. I located an oil tank and battery tray that seem to be correct for the "S".

I will post some pictures when they arrive.

Is the air cleaner assembly special for the "S" model?

Thanks,

Brian B

Thanks to all of you for the rapid help and information. I could have spent months on line looking for information and you have given me so much in just a couple of days.

Here are some more pictures I snapped based on your feedback and input. I think I have the correct Oil tank and battery holder on the way. It looks like I have the correct set of yokes.

The clocks should have a solid green globe. They sit in polished aluminium housings, not black. The ammeter has a black dial. The lamp shell is correct. Your main stand is the later style attached to the gearbox subframe. The correct one is mounted on the frame tube.Coil pack is correct.

rivera,

Thank you for the additional information. I think my list of correct parts that I need to track down is growing daily!!

Thanks,

Brian

Looks like someone put the newer center stand on the trans cradle. Are the lugs removed for the original stand?
Get rid of that headsteady and get one for the 850, they're prone to cracking, the 850 one is boxed and much stronger, or there's several you can make or buy aftermarket. Essentially 2 aftermarket types, heim joint ones and production racer type which is sort of a contained puck arrangement. But I wouldn't put it high on the list, what you have will work. You'll probably want to change the isolastic rubbers too. The Hemmings vernier iso adjuster is reasonably priced and uses all original parts.

Dog T,

Thanks for the additional information. The lugs for the original center stand are still there. I will look into new head steadies and the isolastic rubbers as well.

Is the air cleaner assembly different on the S model?

Thanks,

Brian
