I am looking for the top chrome covers for my replica Girling shocks on my 1970 Commando.
The only ones I can find so far are the bottom ones for the fully covered shocks.
Any hints?

I got mine with a set of NJB shocks from UK. Don't know if he'll sell you just the covers? Worth a try.

Actually I just bought a pair of covers on Ebay. They have a flange at the bottom just like
the bottom covers of the fully covered shocks with black top covers.
Looking at the NJB half covered shocks they seem to have that flange too.
How do yours look like?

My originals have 4 equally spaced bumps or flares of about 1/2" wide at the bottom. The NJB ones have a short flare around the whole bottom.

Well folks!
It´s almost done!
The Commando is now road legal for Germany!
Put the first 300 miles on the bike with some issues- somewhere is a loose cable connection on
the coils, will adress it this afternoon.
Also the carbs need to be fine tuned. Some misfiring and I can´t "do the ton", when running over 3500 rpm
it´s lacking power and it sounds like running on one cylinder only- maybe also an electrical problem with my Boyer box..

Important advice to all: please tighten the choke lever severly- don´t ask...

Paint is from a 28 year old Glasurit can with 15 layers of clear coat on it- miles deep!
But the exhaust has already eaten into the left side cover.. :(

The seat is not quite correct and a later style chainguard is mounted.
I am not quite shure if the front mudguard is the correct narrow style one?
It came with the bike and the chrome is not the best.
The rear one is a stainless steel one from Andover, also from a later model.
I am looking for a correct one with the ditch for the tire pump.

Very nice. I like the color for some reason. A few notes. You can get the correct seat cover from Leighton. If the exhaust is hitting the panel, it's too loose. I found those 'omega' style clamps between the header and silencers inadequate. I got some called 'moose' clamps. Don't know where you'd find them in EU though. I can probably dig up where I got them if you like. Here's a pic of the clamps, the 'omega' style have aluminum inserts and the 'moose' have steel. You can honk down on the moose clamps until the pipe bends.

I ended up bending my headers so they stuck out away from the bike a bit too. Had to adjust the dog leg bracket as well. The front mudguard is correct if the bridge is sized like this.

Andover told me years ago they were going to start making the early front mudguard parts, I even sent them a drawing of the bridge which they didn't have. Not sure what came of it.

I had an early rear guard, but I sold it to someone here in Belgium.

I had troubles with the HT wiring at first too, I wasn't getting the wires seated in the coils enough and mine too was running on one cylinder too at times. The correct chainguards are available.

Over the winter Walridge Motors had a sale and I bought a set of the lower covers for around $25. Not exact but the old ones were badly rusted with no hope of re-chroming them.
