Greeting from a New Member and Norton Newbie

Thank you. These illustrations and examples are really helpful for wrapping my fat heavy head around all of this. Actually, you mentioned that earlier. My bad. Thank you….again!

@Kane I see by the looks you have a after market head steady ...👍
If it was me I wouldn't worry about the perished iso rubbers...im in the camp that believes they hold moisture and make the fittings go crusty over time.
Protect them with your preferred penetrant.....

Hi Mike,
here are pics of the front and rear. This is all new to me, but the consensus is that the bike has the Mk. III style. Two of the rubber boots have been removed and the two that are there are torn and in rough shape. Are the boots a benefit to have on the bike and worth replacing? Do the Internal rubber bushings degrade over time and need periodic replacement, and is there any maintenance to help those rubber parts last longer?
Cheers
Yes the rubbers can be worn off centre, I think the rubber compound is a credit to Andover for lasting so long if they are original, on mine some of the shims were broken / worn , Cheers.

Wow. How did you even see that?! I don’t know the story on the head steady or what model it is, but if it’s an upgrade that’s another good thing.
I have yet to remove the gas tank, but I think I’ll do that tomorrow to get more familiar with the bike.
Here are a few more direct pictures of the head steady, albeit they are shot from below and the best angle I could manage with my phone with the gas tank on the bike.

Looks like a Dave Taylor Headsteady to me.

When you come to replace the isolastic rubber bushes, be aware different sources can have significant differences in hardness. A new set I purchased from a Norton supplier here in Canada were like hockey pucks and gave a very harsh vibration level. Recently replaced with set from Andover Norton, which were closer to running shoe sole hardness and now the vibrations are much lower and tunable via the vernier adjusters.
