John,That shortened ham can does look good but it would not fit with a CNW starter. I just took a few photos of my CNW install with a shortened ham can we made in NZ. You can see the top of the CNW starter is only just lower than the drain plugs on the carbs which looks substantially higher than the electric start being discussed in this thread.
The shorter version we made clears the CNW starter by approx 4 mm.
Hi Mike. Thanks for the message. A friend and I just made one for my bike a couple of years ago. We took a standard front plate. cut it short and used a wooden former to shape the roll over. Then welded and ground the curve smooth.John,
That is very nice work!Could you have any of those to market?
Thanks,
Mike
Johnm,Hi Mike. Thanks for the message. A friend and I just made one for my bike a couple of years ago. We took a standard front plate. cut it short and used a wooden former to shape the roll over. Then welded and ground the curve smooth.
The grill was also a standard part but cut short, carefully bent to shape and spot welded.
The filter was a standard one cut and reglued.
We only made one but hopefully you can find someone local who can fabricate one. It's pretty simple.
I would offer that a bendix and ring gear design would get my money way before the sprag type.Does the world really need another Norton E-start conversion? Can't imagine there's sufficient market for a third choice to be viable...
