MKIII stator/rotor clearance strategies

If I understand what you're saying, there isn't evidence that the rotor actually touched the iron part of the stator, just that the plastic is melted? That's confusing; but if true something else may have melted the plastic.

How much heat can the stator generate if charging into a dead short? Is that enough to melt the plastic?
