Maico 700?

I have a Maico 490. That has the highest output engine produced by the original Maico company. The power is brutal, but the handling is so good that it is actually very rideable bike.
It's sort of a Star Trek experience-
" I want to be up on that hill a quarter mile away , right now. Beam me there Maico."

Goddamned right.
Years ago, I worked with a retired Pratt & Whitney engineer (worked part-time with us), he recited:

"There is no such thing as overpowered aircraft.... but there does exist underpowered pilots."

How many motorcyclists really know how to use s 500cc Manx Norton ? I suggest a lot of people are kidding themselves. A 1963 650cc Triumph Boneviille is fast enough to see-off most road riders at the first corner.
A friend rides his ZX1400 into downtown Boston combat traffic every day. 20,000 miles annually. 58yo, never crashed, always had fast sport bikes. Wayyyyy too much motor.
I'll let him know he can't handle it, and should get a 400 twin for faster commuting.
Maico 700?

Different animal. Those that don't know equate 2 strokes to high winding, pipey animals. Some are.
Big bore single 2 strokes are the opposite. BIG low end power.
That MAICO will be a Torque monster, probably very controllable.

I am aware. I owned an IT490

I had 5 2-stroke off road bikes that I can remember. The bigger bores were good hill climbers. I still think 700cc's is a lot of cc's. Probably a fun ride.

Best hill climber I owned was a CZ 390 Falta Replica. After some port work I did, it was a great power to weight ratio motorcycle. Worst of all of the 2-strokes I owned was a 250 Honda Elsinore. Never did get used to the way the motor worked on that bike. Best all around bike at the time was my '91 KTM 360 DXC. That's about as modern as I got with 2-stroke off road bikes. Never bought another one.

One of the people I rode with early on back then had a Yellow 73 Maico 400. I rode it once and wanted one but settled for the CZ. CZ's were affordable at the time.
