Let’s talk retro style helmets

I preferred my motocross goggles that I used with a previous open face helmet but the opening on this one is narrower so I couldn't use them. I tried some old Stadium split lens ones but I had forgotten how horrible they were in the wet and dark. Now I have nearly forgotten how ridiculously expensive the Aviators are they are they're fine. I did buy a another pair of cheap copies off fleabay with clear lenses to avoid the faffing around of swapping them about but they are less comfortable. I wouldn't buy another pair of genuine ones if something happened to them.

BTW, the helmet is LS2 and not LSL.

Bargain! Would the Aviator copies fit in the v3 shell do you know?

Sorry, no idea. There's some dimensions given on this link to some.

The genuine and copies are the same size if that's a help.

Wore my Davida 92 for the first time today. Not nearly as snug and quiet as the Jet. I like it. Been in the box for 2 years.

WARNING!! Don’t buy from 9MC VINTAGE.

I placed my order on April 3rd
Made payment in full with PayPal, haven’t received any confirmation from 9MC after they withdrew from my account and received my money.
I called both of their phone numbers multiple times with no answer, left multiple voice mails, emailed them multiple times with no response back.

I filed a dispute claim with PayPal to get my money back, and now waiting as PayPal says may take up to 30 days.

I contacted Davida on instagram and they asked me to email them full details and any transactions I have through PayPal, also to include any info of 9MC.

Pisses me off when vendors never follow through or worse take your money and send no product or confirmation.

$577.00 USD and nothing.

Scott,
Confirms my thoughts about the incompatibility of motorcycle related sales and customer service.
I am in the same position but waiting for a bike...

Edit: although FE does have a point.

Not defending them Scott, but only 8 working days elapsed there, maybe they’re just a tad slow?
I understand
But they never answer their business phone and they provide their cell phone number on their website and never answer that as well.
They don’t return phone calls or emails. They took my payment but provided no confirmation. The only confirmation I have is from PayPal.

It literally takes 5 minutes or less to pick up the phone and call someone back after leaving 4 voice mails and the same time to return someones email.

Customer service nowadays sucks!

Is that the place in the Carolinas? It takes weeks to get a David a here in the US if not a halfy. They put the order in, its manufactured fresh then shipped. Took about 5 or 6 weeks. However, no acknowledgement, receipt or communications is piss poor business practice.

Yes in South Carolina.

Funny thing is I called Moto-Amore in California and they carry many in stock.

Thats where I got my second one. First was a Jet (better helmet) second is a ninety two. Supposed to be DOT....nothing on it proves that. I was going to send it back because the ninety two interior, especially the ear pads, were not as good so the helmet didn't fit the same. Lady on the phone sent me the pads from the Jet and it worked out well. I really can't complain about their service. Sorry you are having a hard time. I originally thought they had the helmets in stock too. Could be just the style I wanted. Waited for over a month for the first one too from the UK. Cost a lot more because of the shipping. Much better deal in South Carolina.

Actually....since I bought my first Davida...the prices have dropped on the helmets AND the shipping. Check eBay. From 288.00 US from the UK and only 29+ for shipping. I paid 600 bucks total for my first Jet.

The eBay listing come from Moto Amore. That’s how I got in contact with them. Apparently they are the importer.

Ok, I have decided to risk the wrath of you traditionalists! In for a penny.

I love the look of the open face helmet and goggles. It is just how the original Cafe Racers would have protected their skulls and really fits with the classic Norton look. No question. With the pretty radical riding position on the CR, it would greatly improve the over the shoulder visibility for old dudes like me.

That said, I cannot bring myself to wear an open face helmet for purely safety reasons. We would all have seen the stats relating to the high percentage of crash damage that happens in the chin area. My mates and I ride pretty hard and my mind set is that the full face helmet is an essential.

Would love to know how you guys judge/rationalise your helmet choice.

Long live Norton

Steve

It don't matter if you wear a open face or full face helmet it depends on the accident involved, riders can get serious injuries from both as well as death, I perferr my open face over my full face, I can turn my head more, have better side vision, better hearing, yes the chin is in more danger if you do go down but that's the risk I take and in 45 years of riding I am still here, but I wear a full face MX helmet when riding my dirt bike and my full face flip top when travelling or wet weather riding but its only the last few years I had a full face helmet for road bike riding and I still like my open face better.
Yes I heard it all before full face helmets are safer but are they really and I have brought this subject up before.
