Can we finally accept the number is between 1800 and 1900 Norton 961's made over 10 years ? I am willing to let this number stand , and to be part of a rare community ... Thanks Stu !
Tony,
Seems a reasonable number.
But I wish Simon Skinner would give us an official accounting.

Tony,

I am going to argue that number just to be argumentative!! I think its 1300-1500!! :)

Nah, Ive played it conservative by ignoring engines produced before being built inhouse.
Production was up and down at Norton. You'd be doing fuck all for a week or two, usually because waiting on parts.....then suddenly 16 bikes would need to be built before the end of the next week.

There have been a few threads on this subject from memory and we generally end up in the same area, somewhere just south of 2000. 1800-1900 would appear to be a pretty good guesstimate.

Definitely not sufficient to sustain Norton from a business perspective and undoubtedly the main reason Garner resorted to ‘other’ means of raising funds. I’m all for looking forward at TVS and the potential for Norton, but often find myself looking back and wondering what could have been, if he had decent senior management (with more business acumen than he) around him - and he had played with a ‘straight bat’ of course. Imagine Norton dealers with the sorted 961 range, V4, Supelight, Nomad, Ranger and the promise of more?

Won’t be thinking about that whilst I’m thrashing my 961 Cafe Racer around the hinterland this weekend though!

Long live Norton.

My mate was told that prices for the V4 start at £48k …

No price info on the cafe racer as it’s only a concept (1.5 years later and its STILL a concept FFS)!
£48k and still with these cheap ass levers

according to another bike shed visitor, a Norton rep said they have made 44 961s to honour orders from the previous setup.( as seen on 961 FB group)

The rest of it looks pretty high spec as you would expect for that much money. Scrimping on indicators etc on a high price point low population bike seems a bit counterproductive. Especially when the likes of Ducati are using Rizoma.

Maybe it’s all part of the strategy to direct customers to their well stocked accessory department… ‘if sir would like to step this way, we have a seat for you AND your wallet…’

To be honest though, from the pics I’ve seen so far, the new bikes miss that ‘je ne sais quoi‘ that the SG bikes had. I did not like the chrome on the SG bikes, but I loved the exposed weave carbon, and both bikes certainly stood out. This TVS paint scheme looks nice, and I’m sure it’ll be well done, but it doesn’t match the chrome and carbon for all out ballsiness!!

It appears there will be two colour schemes. Personally I think this bike is smokin’ hot and at least as good looking as the Garner V4 - a little more tasteful maybe. Still in yer face gorgeous. No way you’re walking past this bike without taking a look IMO.
