I called Joe Hunt today and discovered that their new improved magnets in their current magnetos can be installed in their old magnetos easily by buying their new armature and just dropping it in with no modifications. The new armature is about $130. This will save you approx. $665 .

Good to know, but mine has been all good for the 10 years its been on my Norton, haven't touched it except for a few drops of oil on the felt for the point's cam lube, still starts first kick every time, mine is the 4 rare earths, remines me need to order a tune up kit for when it does need it, I had one but gave it to a mate who old JH was needing it badly, have given up waiting for him to replace it.

That is just plain awesome

Also be sure the oil seal is installed with the spring outward to the oil side. I have seen some backwards and they leak that way - fouling the points (especially when behind the cylinders.

Now if you could just talk them into putting a screw driver slot in the end of the armature (behind cylinders style) so you can easily turn the armature when timing it (before tightening the sprocket). I do that to all of them and it makes timing so much easier.
