If it wasn't for Norton

Heck Jim, you can pick up a Harley V-rod engine w/tranny on ebay for about 3K.
You could stuff it into a sportbike chassis like and build your own.

I'd bet you could do it a lot cheaper than the Ecosse and get comparable performance.

I thought about that a while back, but the V-rod engine is a really big lump, and would take a lot of chassis re-work to fit into a featherbed, if you could do it, not to mention finding a place for the radiator.

Ken

You would be better off just to buy a V-rod and then figure out how to install some proper footpegs. Jim

And figure out a way to make it shorter and lighter and better looking.

Good point, a full coverage helmet and shades will work for that last thing.

Of course the best idea is just a good hot rod Norton. Jim

Words to live by (Says the guy who just bought an 883 Sporty and sold it almost immediately, although I did like the engine).

The first time I rode an 883 was in Iowa. It was not fast but it was acceptable if you weren't in a hurry.
The next time I rode one was here in Pueblo with a bit more altitude. I grabbed a handful of throttle and nothing happened. Eventually I realized it was gaining momentum. It was in bad need of some big pistons or a blower. Jim

Exotic materials and fancy constructed doodads is awesome to see in use. If not so much money to burn like me and my 'Norton'. I want variable threshold inverse digital throttle response,ie: too much slows ya down and letting off jerks ya forward. What lights my fire is isolastic 'high' compression dragster on low centrifugal fan boost and not much mass to push. Think its possible on pump gas to get 2 lb ft out of each two valve'd cubic inch displacement? Think it'll be loud enough with a hollow megaphone? Boss Hogs make the ground throb but they don't corner well and can't hook up well for their mass. Also want a sleeper with big fairing and lowers and hard bags so looks like a wimpy ole cruiser with a huge gas tank, so extra confusing when i ask if I can tag along ... till bored >>> Plug in your dream machine numbers in this articles equations.
Alan acotrel left this in race rule post. Torque pressure rules till detonation or tire disintegration.

Sometime in 1968 one of the big US cycle mags (it could have been Cycle World) proclaimed the 883 Sportster to be the fastest production motorcycle on the planet. At the same time we could see one in TV action every week on "Then Came Bronson".
I was 14 years old and wanted a Sportster in the worst way, especially after reading the magazine article.

That all ended when I told an older friend named Vincent about the magazine article. "What a load of bullshit" he says. "There is an old English bike called the Vincent, they stopped building them years ago, but they are faster than any Harley".Wish he hadn't said that, kinda doomed me into the Vincent.

Not all, but some bikers have a habit of talking through their chewing gum :?:

Yeah Bronson put the cool in Sportsters and inspired a lot of guys how to treat their main squeeze as pillion cargo. My best bud has this on his '71 now so an ever present flavor.
