I finally have 6000 miles on my 961

HI Richard, getting the miles up on the bike. Like your Grandfather i served my apprenticeship with B S C in Motherwell my wife and i decided to travel the world lived in Africa and Australia for years but the pull of the U K made us return to the best country in the world.
 
754 miles now, slight oil leak again from rocker cover, need to purchase a 1/4 drive torque wrench to tighten things up now and again. So 6000 revs is my limit until 1200 miles I think. To be honest, its enough where I live on my twisty back roads.
 
John, If you want some good roads, head over to Wodgedodge country in Oakam/Uppingham some time. Mxmartin will confirm, super smooth roads, little traffic and hilly. Had a magnificent ride the other week on my V7 and his beautiful old Laverda. Will be a bit of a backbreaker for you from Towester but well worth it. Pencil in the Welford meet again next year same time as before.

Had mine serviced now and almost 700 miles but your both catching up fast. Any news of the Commando 50th bash or is that now the burnout weekend? Must try and get along to a Norton BBQ but the year is flying by

I can't believe that I haven't been out on mine for past couple of weeks. I had my Thrux ECU remapped at beginning of month and it has turned it into a bit of a 'hooligan machine' so have been thrashing about on that, but that's for another forum :)

I think Donington have dropped the idea of a 50th bash, not heard a peep. NOC are having a meet at Weeting, Norfolk this weekend and celebrating 50 years of the Commando so I'm hoping to run down to that on Saturday, my first proper bike was a '68 750 Commando so I feel the need to celebrate in some small way.

Cheers Richard ,hope to take you up on your idea of a ride out. Bike going to factory on the3 of August for first service cannot wait to get new pipes on.

Also up to 250 since bike returned on Tuesday - can’t claim all of it, 142 before fix and returned with 180... still 70 miles in two days ain’t bad. Need the 500 service now though as a pain to run in.

Hi John,
Glad you’re finally enjoying the bike, I am using mine daily and have booked the service in. The commute will add another 120, weekends will take it well over, taking my Daughter to Thruxton for Superbikes weekend 5th & 6th August. So pick up booked for the Tuesday after, need to do it as you’re so correct, the running in is painful.

Taking daughter on the 961? no grab handles on bike, but I recently got introduced to the chest belt with handles at the back, have you seen those.

Hi Welshrugby, I had seen the belt system albeit by accident, she is 26, so not little. Going to she how it feels with a little ride around the local area. If either of us isn’t happy she’ll pillion on a more friendly bike of a friend. I didn’t buy it for carrying a passenger, just she loves bikes. She grew up when I worked for a company that sponsored a Supersport team, she’s been a grid girl, rode the pit bike and generally had greater access to race bikes than most. She got tickets for my birthday in February as a surprise. She asked if we could ride rather than drive and a good mate is coming along, so we have options.

I might retire mine for maintenance and a good cleaning after I reach 3700 miles because I have 3 other bikes that need exercise.
